Strange happenings

I haven't posted much this summer..not a lot to show this year. I have some peppers (habaneros) in a tub doing good with normal size peppers. In the next tub I have what looks to be a minature hab, height is 12-15 inches, peppers on the plant but they are so tiny, just minatures, perfect but little. The garden is pretty much a done deal. None of the peppers are over 18 inches at the most, look like I planted all ornamentals..I didn't. The ones that do have peppers, the fruit is just tiny. This is the strangest year I have had growing peppers. Many of the plants are not over 6 inches tall. They look like they have just been transplanted for the first time. A lot of the peppers just plain died. I'm thinking many things could have caused this but my first idea is blame it on the weather. August has already shown us fall temps and I think the peppers are so far behind on growth they will not recover. I'm glad I have some peppers dried and in the freezer from last year because this year's crop is not happening.

There is always next year and I will be getting more seeds as I planted most of mine to keep them fresh...oops! Oh well, this is only a delay. I'll always raise peppers and all are going to be in containers next year. The garden will get a long rest. I know the seed was good, all the peppers I transplanted were doing great, no logical reason for this to be happening except the goofy weather we've had. Ok enough griping on the subject! I'll get a picture of the " minature hab" because it's so unusual looking. It's just not right.

I agree the weather was awful and just now things are looking better -- but its the end of August -- The Rocotos I got from you have been doing great nothing ready to pick yet but the germination and plant was/are great! Ideal weather for them. On another note the onions I grew from seed had really done well I should take some pics --

Thanks Jackie

I hear you. certainly was a brutal season. If only we had another month to add onto the summer but I think it's best to just cut our losses and learn to prepare for next year, just in case we get another brutal summer. I'm starting super early next year from seeds to ensure optimal maturity before June and hopefully that should help.

lets just hope for some sun and hear next year! Either that or turn your back yard into a greenhouse.

Mine are just the same Jackie and that's why I haven't posted pictures this year as I don't have much to show. I know last year though when I started them earlier they had tiny fruit but this year starting later I haven't really got anything yet but the Annuums and I'm blaming the weather. It has been nice over here but the few weeks it was really hot I was on holiday and had to move my plants into complete shade.

Do you mean tiny like these? I think it's the weather, also. It's barely gotten to 80 degrees here all summer.

Jackie, if you need some powder/dried peppers to get you through the winter let me know, be happy to share with you.

This had to be about the coolest summer I've ever lived in not counting the one in Alaska. Maybe September will be nice and extend the growing season around here. Hope for the best.

Same here in Michigan. We had a few days in the 90's here then just 70's and 80's.Right now it is in the 60's with a predicted high of 71.It gets worse Saturday.High 64 low 48. September looks bad for us too. There is even talk of snow. The two peppers I rescued are not doing to bad but growing slowly.Bell peppers are there but also growing slowly with pods on them..

Thanks so much, not that I want anyone in the same boat but good to hear I'm not the only one having problems. Patrick, thanks for your generous offer, I appreciate it and will take you up on it too. Next year has to be better!
