Anyone grow theses this year and did you think they were too sweet. I tried a few my buddy grew and he hated them for being too sweet. I thought they were perfect and ate a bunch rite off the vine, I plan on growing next year and wonder what you guys think of them?
 
Are these the open pollinated version of sungold? I have tried the latter and love them. Heard nothing but good things about the sun sugar.
 
I don't know if they were OP but he did say they were expensive hybrid for tomato seeds and the most expensive packs he bought.
 
I prefer them over the sungold. I've grown them a few years, from a seed pack I got at the heirloom seed expo. I tried to start seeds I saved from them and had terrible germ rates, though. Also I've read a few places that they have better crack resistance than sungold.

a. what were they doing selling a hybrid at an heirloom expo?
 
b. you know the name of the OP version of sungold?
 
A. They weren't selling them I got them for free. lol
I want to say they came from the very first certified organic nursery in Petaluma. That guy used to make some really cool tomato crosses. Sadly they closed down last year i think. I could be wrong though, sometimes i mix stuff up with my bad memory. 
 
B. Not sure, shouldn't be to hard to track down though.
 
This is the third year Ive grown them.  They are extremely sweet, its great for the kids though.  Ive also grown italian ice, which is a white tomato thats very sweet but i felt it lacked some of the depth of flavor of the sun sugars. 
 
almost finished my 2016 tomato grow list and sun sugar is on it. i grew F1 hybrid last year and saved the seeds, so will see how the sun sugar OP turn out. i did like them and didn't find them too sweet but they aren't sungold.
 
i also did the sungold F1 and sungold OP and there is a difference, some friends actually preferred the sungold OP, not me, sungold F1 is just better.
 
sun sugar has become a common nursery plant every year so perhaps for 2016 i can pick up a sun sugar F1 and compare it to the OP version, i have 3 more spaces for tomato varieties.
