I was actually hoping that it would be boozier.  I boiled off a bit of the alcohol in the booze that I used.  I shouldn't have done that.

I like having the gritty texture instead of just the light rainy texture you get from regular cornmeal.  My wife turned me onto the polenta.
She's not from the south either.

I've never tried that.  I think I might next time.
 
I would encourage anyone to add some polenta to their cornbread too.
