The Murupi amarela. A Brazilian pepper that rocks!

Thanks go to the ever generous John Ford at Ford`s Fiery Foods and Plants.

This is one of the most citrusy peppers I`ve ever eaten. I know that this description is used for so many peppers, but in this case you`ll be amazed just how citrusy it is.

These start off tasting of lemon/lime, plus that certain C.chinense flavour. They are beautifully clean tasting with enough acidity to be extremely well balanced. Then the heat crashes over you and everything heats up. They are never hot enough to take away the lovely flavour, but they are just about habanero-hot, so no slouch at all with the heat. The aftertaste then changes a bit and instead of lemon/lime, it becomes more like an orangey flavour in addition to a subtle chinense-like flavor.

Absolutely spectacular!!!

Yellow.
Know exactly what you mean.

Excellent review, as always.

Commandeered (with permission) the other half's aerogarden for another 66 sprouts in late January.

So many peppers, so little space.

Missed this one darn it. Maybe next year
Seems he slipped this one by me too Chewi. I thought I had seen all of Nigel's reviews. Will have these on my list too next season. I'm all about flavor before heat. Once again great review Nigel.

Do these ripen to orange or do they stay cream colored at final ripeness?  I have lots of cream colored ones on 2 plants right now but am unsure if I should pick them or wait. The pod in Nigel's review looks more orange-y than anything I have, but ikeepfish's pepper is more cream colored like mine.  Help!

I obtained these seeds after watching Nigel's review and they are great tasting at any stage, but I was saving some up to ripen so I can make a sauce...

Thoughts?

Mine are completely ripe at the ivory/cream color, and someone else pointed out to me that when the color is bleeding into the stem it means they're over ripe...so I don't think they'll be turning orange.

The Murupi is considered the hottest brazilian native pepper. It's originated from the Amazon and it's really delicious. I just took the pic below:

This little fella is a Murupi.

There is another gorgeous Brazilian pepper IMO, it's the Cumari (trying some germination also atm).

A hug!

I'm out of Murupi fresh seeds, but I can get good ones. As soon as I receive them, I'll post here. It will be a pleasure to send some.

A hug!
