Aussie fellow.

My journey began in the late 90's on the Chileheads mailing list (if anyone remembers that!).

Just decided to grow again after YEARS. Found a jar of super old seeds and ordered 2 jalapeño varieties + 2 Malaysian varieties I'll probably gift to a Malay friend.

Still pretty wintery here, so purchased an LED growlight & heat mat. Have successfully germinated:

- Cabai Burung Putih (Malaysian white bird)
- Malaysian Goronong (habanero type)
- Jalapeño Tormenta
- Jalapeño Chocolate/Brown
- Red Rocoto
- Serrano
- Tomatillo (obviously not peppers but were in the old jar. Have never grown/tasted before!).

More interested in the horticulture/biology side of it than spicy foods/hot sauce etc. Love pickled jalapeño slices on my pizza though - will mainly be growing those & having a go at preserving them.

Anyway, great to find a little forum that's still active. I miss these sorts of communities following the advent of Facebook et al.

Always good to welcome a Southern Hemisphere fellow
to the THP fold! Lots of great pepper growers in your
neighborhood!

More interested in the horticulture/biology side of it than spicy foods/hot sauce etc..

Sort of where I am at these days, as well. Came for the heat
back in 2012, but after sampling the super hots for a few
seasons, found I don’t like the taste of the chinenses much.
Now grow mostly wild varieties, a couple of Mexicans, a couple
of baccatums, and a couple if chinense crosses. That keeps
me busy enough, and I found the wilds can rival the rest for
heat for me, considering the small size of the berries!

Good luck getting back in the pepper growing saddle!

Would love to checkout the Pacific NW. The coast looks amazing with those pine rainforests right down to the sand. Was a big Nirvana fan in the 90's too so will get to Aberdeen & Olympia, WA one day!

The heat & pungent, fruity taste of the habanero ilk aren't for me either.

I grew out some wild tepins a lady sent me from New Mexico once. Was a lot of fun!

Lol. I think the daily list was my first intro to spam (although solicited)!

I loved that list & era though. Seed shops were rare (non-existent down under) but custom laws were lax - I was receiving seeds in the mail from all over the world (quite a novelty in those days!).

Those wild tepins mentioned above actually came via a Swedish list member who had received them from the lady in New Mexico & grown them out locally! Great little stories like that.

Anyway, will spare everyone my reminiscing.
