This is my glog. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

And so it begins...

Day 83 update.

Well I finally ran out of room on my grow shelf, the plants became overcrowded and difficult to remove for watering without damaging the leaves. So I set up a second shelf with some shop lights that I had and a few 10 & 15W LED red/blue bulbs that I had. I left the larger plants on the top shelf and moved the rest to the bottom shelf.

My golden Marconi that I accidentally snapped off below the cotys two weeks ago took root - yay! My first successful cutting. The plant looks a little crapy right now, but I'm hopefully it will make a full recovery.

In other news, the last tomato finally popped this week (making it 6 out of 6). I potted up the first 5 tomatoes and the ground cherries. The ground cherry seedlings are tiny, it's the first time I've grown them and was expecting them to grow quickly like tomatoes, but they are growing really slowly, even slower than the peppers. Next year I'll show them much sooner (if I decide to grow them again).

I've managed to acquire a large number of three gallon ice cream containers (for free) and I am planning to use them to make SIPs out of them. Here are pictures of my first attempt. It's pretty similar to the 5 gallon SIPs that I see pictures of online. I used a used Keurig cup to make the wick at the bottom (also free). I am usure whether Or not I should add a fill tube, or if I should just refill the reservoir by removing the inner pail from the outer pail? Comments and suggestions would be welcomed.

Not much to report, so here's a few pics instead.

Purple Serrano, podding up nicely:

Bhut jolokia mustard - I have a feeling this is going to be a beast:

My popcorn hydro/kratky type experiment plants, Fatalii black, second one I forgot to label (I stripped the leaves on this one but didn't top it) and Cheiro Roxa:

A couple of younger plants, Fatalii green and Pink Tiger:

Mako Akokosrade and Cheiro Recife - are they normally this small and bushy?:

Lovely spring weather:

Day 115 update.

I've been slacking on the glog updates lately and for a good reason - I have a raging case of BLS that has affected about a third of my plants:

26601976731_a2fbab00df_k_d.jpg

This is how many leaves I had to strip today, I've been stripping a similar amount every day for a couple of weeks:
26667779355_637d102616_k_d.jpg

Many of my plants are pretty sorry looking now.

For some reason it's mainly affecting the chinenses, the baccatums and annuums seem to be unaffected and continue to grow well.

Dulce sol, pods are much lighter in color than I expected:

Aji fantasy:

Aji Chinchi Amarillo on the left, I'm surprised to see these point up out f the canopy:

Purple Serrano, the growth has really slowed down on this one but it has over 30 full size pods on it now:

So I'm not sure what will happen with my grow from here on out, I have some huge plants that are loaded with flowers, but at the rate I am stripping leaves I don't hold out much hope.

One of my better chinenses - Bido tacana, there are literally hundreds of flowers/buds on this thing.

Thanks guys.

I haven't given up hope yet. Although I have a bunch of plants that look sadder than Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, I still have a bunch that are doing great.

Here's that mustard bhut that I posted a picture of a couple of posts back, I told you it was going to be a beast:

Day 152 update.

Quick update. I finally managed to get the BLS under control (or at least I think I did). I just kept on pulling off any leaves that I didn't like the look of. Some of the plants ended up pretty bare, while others weren't affected at all.

I spent the last couple of weekends getting my plants outside. We went from freezing cold temperatures to crazy hot in the space of a week or so, it made hardening off difficult this year but at least it's done now.

Couple of pics. First one is an overall shot of my plants. Trying a new self watering system this year, we'll see how it works out.

A few close-ups. Top left - Pink Tiger, top right - Cheiro Roxa, bottom left -"hot Italian" (this was a mystery plant from seeds a co-worker brought back from Italy), bottom right - dulce sol, Aji fantasy and Aji chimchi Amarillo.

Day 169 update.

Not too much to report. The weather has been crazy here, from really cold to super hot then back to really cold again and now really hot again... We had lows of 35F last week, now we're getting highs of 90F. Some of the peppers are unaffected by this and are continuing to grow well and the tomatoes and ground cherries don't seem to mind the cooler temperatures at all, but some of the peppers are stalled out. Temperatures are supposed to be back to normal In a few days.

The first of my Jigsaw crosses are podding up. First one is a super dark pheno, the plant looks a lot like a pink tiger:

The second one is not so dark, but is already putting out some gnarly pod shapes:

Some of my better plants. Datil:
27670599832_37f5df58e3_k_d.jpg

Bido Tacana, this plant has probably dropped 150 flowers already, but a few pods have formed:

Mustard bhut, pods just starting to form:

Off-pheno CGN 21566, looks more like a Moruga:

Cheiro Roxa starting to pod up:

Dulce Sol:

Ground cherries, first time growing them - I underestimated how large these would grow:

Tomatoes and a few more peppers:
27349549230_7fc983271b_k_d.jpg

I also picked up three more plants from Walmart (I'm weak): Pinot Noir (a purple bell), Sweet Heat (a spicy bell) and Mosquetero (a type of poblano).

Plants look great!

I guess the BLS has taken a vacation?
Thanks! For the most part the BLS. seems to be gone but there are still a couple of plants that I am keeping an eye on. The vast majority seem to be OK now. I did lose a few though, the Mako Akokosrade, Cheiro Recife and Ampuis didn't make it.

Looking great. Those plants look as if they really appreciate the sun.
Till when will the great Canadian summer last?
Thanks Karoo. The first frost usually comes around the middle of September, but can be 2 or 3 weeks later some years.

Day 204 update.

Just an update on my F2 Jigsaw crosses. First plant looks very much like the F1 plants, which is exactly what I was looking for. The ripe peppers looks orange in this pic for some reason, but they are really red:
28447660021_ad5173f0d5_k_d.jpg

The second phenotype I am really excited about. The plant looks very much like a pink tiger, but the peppers start out black then fade to green before turning peach:
28419730752_84c2fc953b_k_d.jpg

Third plant shows no purpling whatsoever. The peppers start out a great light green color, I don't have any ripe pods yet so I'm not sure what the final color will be. This one is absolutely loaded with peppers:

Here is what one of the other plants look like, pods are only just forming on this one but I'm digging the way it looks
