Thread Photos?

I am just wondering why all the thread photos look like AjiJoes avatar.
Is there a customization setting we can remove them?
It seems as tho Ajijoe started ever single thread. Will that change?
Not that I don't like his avatar, it's just the simple fact that I see double practically half the time anyway.
