tommys south texas glog '15--FINAL GROW LIST FRONT PAGE 2/9/15

Well after a few months of research and advice from the fine folks here at THP, I'm happy to start my very first glog!

I started the day by building a stand for my lights, now I'm thinking I may need another ballast.
After I set up the stand and lights, I laid down some foam, then my heat mat.
I filled my 7 cup station with MG seed starter and watered in. After mixing the soil around I laid in my seeds.
*Yellow Primo
*SB7J
*Carolina Reaper
*Greek Pepperoncini
*Bush Big Boy Tomato Hybrid
*Pequin x2
I laid saran wrap over top and tried my best to seal it, but saran wrap and I have never seen eye to eye.
Programmed the timer on the light, 18 on, 6 off, going on from 5pm to 11am. I know lights aren't necessary at this point but what the hell.
Should be getting more seeds in the mail soon, so I'll be setting up a bigger station after that. And now for something we hope you'll really like!

The station to the right isn't active yet, thinking I may get another mat for it, especially since I found a place locally that sells them.
Thanks for checking out my glog, wouldn't be possible without y'all!

Hello, Good looking start!  20 varieties is plenty!

Best of luck with your 2015!

Mike
Thanks Mike, and best of luck to you!
Turns out after all is said and done, thanks to the extreme generosity of everyone here, I'll have closer to 40 varieties!
If anyone here is in a farmers market circuit selling heat, I'd love some advice on getting started

OWs are looking good with new growth everywhere, seedlings are bringing out their first set of true leaves, still waiting on hooks from the 25 cell station.
But thanks to Dougthehead and withywindle72, I got a bunch of New varieties to plant soon. Waiting on a couple more packages, then I'll start my last station. Here's the updated list, with asterisks by whatever I haven't started yet.

Tepin
Greek pepperoncini
Reaper
Sb7j
Yellow primo
Choc. Scotch bonnet
Choc. Bhut
Yellow brain strain
Yellow giant Congo
Yellow moruga
Bahamian goat
TM Scorpion
Giant Orange habanero
Bido tacana
Murupi amarela
Antillais Caribbean habanero
Bonda ma Jacques
OW ghost scorpion
OW moruga
Cayenne x Peter*
Red fatalii x savina*
7 pot Congo*
Caribbean red habanero*
Mystery red moruga*
Yellow spaceship f2*
Choc. Devils tongue*
7 pot caramel*
Monster Naga*
Peach scorpion*
7 pot bubblegum*

Plus the 9 mystery seeds I planted makes 40 so far.
I'm thinking about planting 2 or 3 of each so I can try to sell them at farmers market. But mainly this is a research year for me. Searching for biggest yields and best flavors so I can continue with those and really corner the pepper market here

Just got hooked up! Went to a couple different nurseries as well as the local hydro shop. Ended up with 110 3.5" square pots @ 15 cents each, 14 used flats with 18 cells each to put those pots in, FREE; then two 1020 trays at $3 each.

Also saw that the hydro shop sells EVERYTHING I'll need for the season.

Didn't even have to use my A.K., today was a good day.

Very nice score!
Yessa, thank ya sa.

Now I have to decide when to separate my seedling and transplant everything into these. Should I wait until the first set of leaves is really grown? And when I do transplant, should I go ahead and fill these up with the foxfarm I plan on getting?

Prolly best to wait till second set of true leaves to transplant. I transplanted so early because i hated that Miracle grow mine where in. Wait till you're ready to transplant before filling pots. Lessens the exposure to nasties and what not.

Alright sounds good, I guessss I can wait that long. Hopefully by then I'll have all my seeds in so I can start those. Also hoping I get hooks on my current germ station by then. It'll make for a nice assembly line type flow. Here's to hoping it works as planned.

Also, how is your separation going? Are all plants surviving? Hoping I don't kill any of mine when trying to separate into 1 per pot

Yea they are doing fine, Don't see any changes in them. Taking all my spares and the chilluns to my dads house tomorrow. letting him pick through and decide what he wants to grow for the year. I did move all the seedlings up under the t5's instead the LEDs because it's a little warmer up there and the LED is more for when they get bigger.

Right on man bad ass. I wish my dad was a little closer so I could just pop in with some goodies for him. I'll make the 3 hr trip a little later in the season to bring him some heat though

Time for some obligatory food porn.
Took this idea from husker.
Chuck roast,
rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, Olive oil blended together and slathered over the meat. Scorched at 450 for 20mins. Add vegetables, fresh herbs and spices and water, cover and cook at 325 for 2-3hrs.
Mine came out a little done for my taste, but was still delish and will make excellent leftovers.

Should've let it cool a bit in the juices before slicing but I'm impatient

I see you have an ambitious grow list planned Tom, good luck in 2015! Where you are on the Gulf, the Pequins should be able to over-winter outside once you get them established. Pretty good deal! The yellowing on the bare branches of your OW Scorpion means they're dying back. No problem with that since you've got so much new growth coming along. The root ball can only support so much growth and the plant lets go of what it can't support. If you plant outside or repot in a larger container, the root ball will grow and be able to support a larger leaf canopy. Cheers!

Thanks Rick, you answered a few of my unanswered questions! My mother in law has pequins throughout her property from bird spread, she just clips em back in the winter and lets them go. They do great down here even in the black clay.
I figured that the Browning was die back, just wanted to be sure it wasn't anything threatening. I always wondered about leaving open ended stems when pruning, if it encouraged any nasties.

Nah... I wouldn't worry about it, but I would clip back any obviously dead branches to just above the last green node. Too much "dead wood" could attract a fungus that the plant wouldn't like if it stays wet for long. A quarter of a inch of dead material above the node is OK... it's kinda like a scab to keep the sap in and the nasties out.

Good to know, thanks for the tip!

Nice score on the growware!
Hey Scott, I saw that you use shade cloth. Would you recommend it for me as Well? I'm planning a 20x20 grow area on the north side of the house that gets direct Sun from 9-5. The shade slowly starts creeping over about 4pm, and will completely cover my yard by about 530 right now. I know it'll change in the summer but either way. Sunshade?
