topping/cutting to produce more pods

somewhere I read you can top/cut your plant to produce more stems/nodes, is this correct ?
well then do you just cut the top off or side branches ? & when would be a good time to do this, once the plant is so many inches tall or ? do you need to put some stuff on the part that was just cut ?
 
thanks for the links & answering my question. I gotta be doing something seriously wrong the previous years :) :oops: because none of my chiles grew that big, like in your pics (potawie) or other pics I've seen on this forum from others. they still produced chiles but not as many as others plants on this forum.:(
 
I love huge plants so I plant quite early and have a greenhouse so do't feel bad chilehunter. I'm obsessed.
