pruning Transplanting and Pruning?

Hi, so I bought a Bhut Jolokia plant from a hardware store and its around 1 ft tall and has lots of big leaves but not much at the base of the plant. Its growing straight up and I was wondering if I should prune it to promote forking from the base? I found some scientific evidence for pruning and was wondering if anyone has any experience? http://hos.ufl.edu/protectedag/pdf/pepperpruning-elio.pdf

Should I prune the upper leaves to let the lower ones grow?
When I transplant should I wash the soil from the roots because the roots are in a big clump, or should I just transplant as is?

Loosen the roots so they're not in a clump, trying to point them downwards. Keep them in the soil.

I've been reading a lot about mycorrhizal fungi lately and I have some premium spores in the mail at the moment
There are a lot of products you can buy for these however I believe you should get premium samples only
 
The ones I got were $35 for 500g

I've read a lot about it increasing metabolite concentrations in plants as well - IE capsiacin 
 
I've read some discussion on other websites and found that many growers of "medicinal herbs" swear by these products.
 
While the herbs I grow are chilli peppers, I must admit that the pictures they have of their "medicinal herb" plants are really something. They have really remarkable and beautiful foliage for plants grown indoors in containers.
 
These growers are still a great source of information for gardening ideas that you won't get from from Martha Stewart or see on the HGTV network.
