Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper

Hey guys. Really wanted to grow some hot peppers this year. Decided to order some seeds off amazon, and sure enough they germinated within 10 days using the wet paper towel method. So far, these guys have been alive for 12 days and are out on the back deck soaking up the Georgia sun.

Really hope to track the progress even further and get some really nice, mean, looking peppers !

Thanks, man !

Lookin' good and good luck, brother! Stick around, there are some awesome folks on here with a plethora of knowledge. Have you grown TS Morugas yet? Or tried one? I love them and have a couple growing as we speak. Peppers are addictive. I started out growing a handful of Caribbean Reds years ago and now I have close to 50 and a dozen plus varieties growing this year. Welcome aboard!

I actually am from Trinidad. We grow habaneros every year in the backyard and make some homemade caribbean pepper sauce. Very addicting and hot, the sweats are guaranteed !.  Just wanted to try something hotter, now that I'm on break from college, so any tips and tricks on growing these bad boys would be very much appriciated. I read that I should grow these like any other pepper, so this should be a walk in the park. Can't wait till the harvest.

Just a end of the week update.
  •  Seems like something ate one of the leaves on two of my plants...
  • Its been about 2 weeks since these things have been planted, and very little progress has been made. Is that due to the soil?
  • I'm using Miracle Grow potting mix, and theres tons of bark and other crap in there.

If I transplant these to a much softer soil, would that be a good idea? Or am I just being impatient? I've seen some growers have their second set of true leaves after the second week mark, so I'm kind of worried I'm lagging behind.

*Forgot to add this in*
  •   temperatures are at 65-80 degrees
  • I water them every 2 days until the soil is moist, not drowning. (Can't really give you a PRECISE amount)
  • They get around 13 hours of sunlight each day from being outside.

From my limited experience they take a week (in hydro) once they have righted themselves to start the true leaves cycle...however in soil this may take a little longer.

Yea, I double checked the calender and I figured I was just getting a little ahead of myself. Once the roots started showing in the paper towel method, i planted them right away. Its only been two weeks and a day...so I guess by next week or so they should be pretty much settled and shoot up.

Double post, but...

I'd really like to know if anyone is willing to send me some seeds . Would love to add some more variety not only to my garden, but to my own taste bud experience. Please PM me.

Thanks again, really can't show how much gratitude I have towards you guys !

After reading some more topics on the forum, I decided to do a LITTLE experiment and put 3 of the plants in a shaded area while the other 4 gets some direct sun.
  • Shaded ones are growing much better versus the others. Mostly due to soil temperatures. Peppers like the sun, but if the soils too hot, then they will struggle a little bit.

Oh, and I found a nursery that sells some super hots. Picked up a Carolina Reaper and Jolokia plant from Nearly Native Nursery .  If you're in the Fayetteville area, definitely check them out. Super cool people, and the girl there has some awesome dreads ;)

This plant was in the small brown pot. Decided to move it over to something else as the soil it was in was filled with rocks and wood (Thanks miracle grow  ) Doing WAY better now.

My Morugas seem to like partial shade, in particular some cover from the mid-day sun.  The one plant that I have "in the open" is stunted when compared to those that receive a reprieve during the middle of the day.

Sweet. So I'm doing something right lol.

Those pods look delicious though ! Can't wait for some of my own.

Btw, how do you use em'? Sauce it up, or does it go straight into the food, cut up?

I have made salsa with a few of the early pods, de-seeded, and it turned out quite tasty with a lingering burn.  I did try one whole pod (a small one) for the experience and it was like I crashed my face into a lit Weber grill.  I only got to enjoy about 5 seconds of "flavour" before the heat overwhelmed everything.

And then there was milk, milk everywhere.

I find that the only way to get the flavour to last is to pick the pepper while its green. Love to cut it up in pieces and eat it with some chicken and rice. :drooling:
