Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Very good.

Huh? Maybe indoors to keep them small and bushy. Fruits come only from leaves being present. Weed or kale? Weed, the flowers are our crop, kale the leaves..so not sure what that means.

Indoors its fine. Saves space, stalls the plant, mitigates stretch due to lower light intensity, does improve air circulation. Bunch of reasons to do it. Especially indoors or in containers. Simply put its a manipulation as a means to an end, temporary or permanent.
You do realize that we eat or use a different part of the plant for Weed and Kale. He is arguing that we shouldnt prune because it harms the plant because the plant needs photosynthesis. Im arguing that the bottom most leaves already barely get enough light and those leaves are just taking in nutrients that could be used elsewhere. If you want a lot of leaves then thats good. If you want a lot of flower buds that is also good, but if you want fruit then nope. As I said before fruits require a lot of nutrients that leaves just take up the nutrients for.

So then FEED them more and GET MORE. Leave the leaves alone. Stop molesting your plants :) They know what to do, despite our "grand ideas" we come up with as growers. I promise you this. I challenge anyone to a grow off, I won't prune, they can prune. We present photos of flower and fruit set, and tally up weight at the end of a given season. I already know what will  happen.

Finally, someone gets it. Just like multiple plants in a container, dont make them fight for nutrients, just give them more.

I just had to top this deda de moca, chinense but taller than my growdown plants by a few inches. Its already in the tall plant section, so it got the pinch.
Yeah, buddy, someday maybe we will have
great amounts of space and a long grow
season so we can just let the plants grow!

I think it all comes down to what your purpose
for growing is. If you're into show plants that
produce 5 kilos of pods, so be it. If you are
farming and looking for big numbers, perfect.
If you are into just a few fruit for your own
modest needs, then alright. If you want to grow
bronchi, well there you have it. Let's not worry
about it. Enjoy what you do and do what you
enjoy and what works in your own situation.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments about the
pruning issue to all who participated.

For sure. No issues with different growing methods. Bonchi is fun, but we don't go around saying its awesome because of yields, its just awesome because it makes the plants look beautiful and neatly contained, like pets, show things. Wonderful morning coffee companions to watch the snow fall from the warm comfort of our bay windows as we plan the spring plant out.

Besides, lets save all the hostility for the growdown where it belongs...haha

Seriously, no worries. Grow how you wanna grow and what suits you!

Agree. Live and let live.

Zone 3 experimental tundra-grow here, reporting in. Hooks have been sighted in both F7 violet and white. 6 day germ, I do not remember doing so well.

Will report later as progress continues.

That is all...
Great news, Eric!  Hope you
get a good germination rate.

Six days is great. Can't wait
to see them growing!

Adam's F7W and my F7Violet, hooked one day apart.
The F7W shot up very fast; the F7V is sort of catching
up lately. At plant-out, probably will be hard to tell the
difference.

First pod on the F73. That makes for three out of
four setting pods  :)

F73's canopy. I found three more little pods after
looking a bit closer this afternoon.

I had a hogsweed pop 3 pods super quick last year. I pinched everything else. Pretty sure my hogsweed seed is isolated though! For sure!
I was debating limiting the number of pods
on the F7, but since it just keeps on setting
them, i'm going to let them go and feed the
plants well.

Isolated, indeed! Silver lining to having started
way too early and turning the F7 into an indoor
grow. They will have had a full grow season by
plant-out in May/June

Hopefully, greenhouse season will be here by
mid-April. Long range forecast doesn't look
horrible.

The F74 plant has started setting pods,
found 3 today.

The F71 plant keeps on setting pods.
I have lost count, there are at least a
dozen, maybe a few more.

Looking down at the canopy.

Amazing.

Even at the cotyledon stage these buggers are gorgeous, Paul!
Glad you are enjoying them, Eric.
Can't wait to see 'em
I'll be ecstatic to get half your production!

At what point do we stop enumerating 'F's?
T'is the season of the naming.
I need to touch base with Tristen
about that.

You will find these to be very a
vigorous and productive hybrid!
