So the trick now, while you are waiting to see the extent of the damage, is to not get tempted to do anything else. Not to be condescending, but it's a repeated theme. When growers have setbacks, they sometimes get impatient, and start to dither. Pepper plants are pretty hearty, and will come back even after being fully uprooted, having roots cut off, and then replanted. So the trick is just to do nothing - for now. (other than to make sure it doesn't go completely dry, and has sufficient light to facilitate a recovery)
