My guess is based on you saying the seeds were labeled "scorpion". The trinidad moruga scorpion throws pods that look like the first picture but bumpier. First pods are sometimes wonky, so maybe future pods will have more bumps. The trinidad moruga scorpion also throws pods that look like the second pictures. In fact, if you google it and select images you will find pictures for both. At Wikipedia, you can find photos of both types on their tms page. I understand the original looked close to the first picture only with lots of bumps like 7 pot brain strain.
Then there is the logic and you saying they were labeled only "scorpion". Yep, lots of scorpion peppers / peppers with that word in the name. But if I google the words Scorpion Pepper Seeds, most of the top results are for trinidad moruga scorpion. Kind of makes sense that if it is the most popular that it is the most likely to be mislabeled.
Now before anyone jumps me and tells me that one pod type is right and the other is wrong, I am just observing how the term is used.
