Turmeric

Already tried two times to grow this with basically no success, the picture shows what I got from last years attempt, will keep them for seeding but will try another two this year, sprayed them to get them to sprout. Supposed to be easy to grow, just dont like to be wet.

I've been wanting to grow turmeric too.  I buy it fresh from the store all the time.  I put it in smoothies, sauces, etc. Let me know how it goes!

Turmeric doesn't like to be wet?  That's odd, because I have had the best luck in sub-irrigated planters.  Got about 10lbs of it out of a tote last year, and more on the way this season. :)

Ginger grows well like that, too.  But it takes a LOOOONG season.

I don't know what that is in your first picture, but it doesn't look anything like turmeric...

Yeah, it was a little too awesome... I had to give a lot of it away. :(

Wasn't expecting that kind of yield! Bad problem to have, right? LOL

And you didnt do a sauce ????
I did a couple of sauces with Fataliis, but to be honest, its not a flavor that I really care for in hot sauce. I use it more for Indian cooking, and some juicing and raw food. For whatever reason, I didn't have the time to cure it for storage.

Will do a better job this season.

Put it in my first scotch bonnet sauce. Just 1/8 TSP to like 20 peppers. Any more and it would've killed it for sure, but I think a smidgen added a unique flavor in a damn good sauce.

It's great for spicy pickles, also.  A couple of your favorite superhots in any jar of plain old white vinegar deli pickles, along with some big (crushed) chunks of turmeric, a whole bunch of garlic, and some peppercorns, and BAM!

I love strong garlic and turmeric flavors...

I've only grown once and got small but usable rhizomes. Large pot, (5gallon) loose rich soil, full sun, if my growing season was longer they would have been bigger.
Best thing in the word to include in your diet: anti cancer, anti inflammatory, anti oxidant, great for digestion, skin, liver, blood cleansing. Everyone should eat this.

I remember going to this little island in the caribbean called Dominica (not the same as dominica republic) and we were going through the jungles and hiking and our guide showed us how to find them. We got so much wild tumeric. It was amazing! Wish I could go back. The natives sold them for so cheap too!

Got some from Sprouts (an organic grocery store in cali) some I believe are sprayed so they don't grow... the ones in Asian stores say product of Costa rica...so ya.. got mine to grow in 2-3 weeks. First batch was in lunch bags..not the resealable ones. But the plain sandwich bags..put some water and placed. Cool dark place..voila. turmeric. I'd post pics but atm PB is being a B

So I don't really know all of the ins and outs of commercial agriculture - but what would they be sprayed with that would prevent growth, and still be able to be sold as organic?

I'd be a little worried about eating something that had been treated with an agent that stifled the life cycle of the organism it was applied to.

If you take Tumeric you may like to give Curcumin a try, i recently made the switch to a 30x strenght Curcumin Caps.
