Hey, if you're at the Fiery Foods Show, post here and tell us what's going on!

Nope. I just started the thread for our humble correspondents to chime in.

Well, yesterday afternoon I dropped off a few items for the Defcon Tomb of Doom. For once, his pallet of pain was in place before his crew of heathens even arrived at the airport.

That evening, The Creator and I had a few beers, ran into CaJohn and a few others in the lobby. There was evidence that the Danny Cash crew was there, as their booth (with speed rails and all) was already set up and ready to go.

I'm about ready to take off and help put the final touches on Defcon's booth and hit industry day running!

There will be a little surprise going on sometime during the show, but I'm not at liberty to divulge any secrets or give any hints.

Things seem a little scaled back this year, but I haven't gotten a good look around as of yet.

Ok.... Well, The Creator was suffering some adverse affects from being exposed to nuclear radiation this morning and wasn't feeling like himself at all. He was sporting quite the fever... but it broke in the afternoon and all was well.

Jim (Mild to Wild) absolutely lit me up with one of his new sauces, Fatality. Fatalli based, and the heat just won't stop!!! Good tasting sauce as well.

This year, there is a BBQ cookoff and a wing eating competition, which is new to the show.

The biggest missing presence......MSK. The Mississippi Sauce King didn't make the trip this year and is missed by all. Also, there are quite a few regular sauce makers not in attendance. Tahiti Joe being one of them.

I did, however, run into Buddha at the end of the evening tonight, which was quite the surprise.

Rumor has it that Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) will be attending this week. But as of right now, it's just a rumor.

One of the biggest things that all of the vendors were noticing today was that there were more people actually buying product, rather than just tasting and walking by. Let's hope that continues on through the weekend.

Most everyone seemed really tired this evening. So, instead of the usual after show debauchery, most I spoke with were just having dinner and going to get some rest for the Big Day (AKA: The Feeding of the Lemmings). As I sit here typing this, I will probably have a few frosty adult beverages and hit the sack myself.

More tomorrow.

Oh... I forgot to add that Blair has a new collectible. Don't ask me the name of it, I'm not into collectibles, especially at $150 a pop.

P.S. Blair will not be in attendance, but his booth looks better than ever.

Yeah, so far so good. My ibuprofen/fermented hops therapy broke my fever, and all is good in the Defcon Continuum. The first day is primarily dedicated to trade personnel (wholesalers/distributors) so it's pretty much a lax day, with the Gates of Hell opening from 4-7 for the public. It was a decent trade day, as we met up with a dozen or so new wholesalers. The 3-hour public time sequence was good as well. As Devil Duck said, it was different than it has been for the last 3-4 years we've been doing this show.

The public, although not as many in number, came to BUY, not just blindly sample products without a clue as to what they are eating, like usual. They were also all in excessively happy moods, which allowed the Defcon Crew to unlelash their twisted humor en masse against the public, and they were more than happy to laugh, not just stare back at us like goats staring at apples.

It was nice seeing Cheffy, Buddah, ChileheadEd, Parker, and others, and I have a feeling tonight is going to be quite the party night.

More to come.......

Pretty good day, even though attendance is down quite a bit from last year. All of the vendors I spoke with seem to have moved a lot of product.

The Creator is having a nuclear fallout relapse, and I'm fighting off the adverse affects as well. As a matter of fact, I left the show to get Mrs. DD some lunch (she's got the fallout blues as well) and I ended up crashing for about 3 hours.

When I got back up to the show, there wasn't the mass of humanity to fight like there usually is. It was really strange.

However, The Travel Channel was there filming for an upcoming special and the Defcon Tomb of Doom seemed to be their favorite hangout. So, keep tabs on your local cable or satellite provider for "Extreme Food Vendors"..... or something like that. It should be good.

I'm getting all kinds of questions about my company. Since I've lost my "good paying" job, the bottom pretty much dropped out of it. However, I'm going to be back with a vengeance this coming year.

Hopefully, tomorrow night after the last customer leaves and the last pallet is packed, there will be tales of the normal debauchery..... But, we'll just have to wait and see.

The Rev. Billy G. does have a fondness for purty gals, guacamole and hot sauce! One of his recipe's from his book Rock and Roll Gearhead is Rev Willy's Killadilla Renegade Guacamole.
Fistfuls of Avo's
Good grindings of garlic
Stealthy helpings of jalapenos
Kilos of queso
A load of limes
Packs of Rev Willy's powdered peppers
Carloads of crispy chips
Slice.
Dice.
Whack.
Hack.
Swirl.
Get yo' girl and you got it!

Now THAT is a recipe ya'll!

Ugh.... what a day. I think I have contact fallout sickness.... I didn't even go to the show in the morning.

About 4:45pm Mrs. DD and I make our way to the show to a fairly empty ballroom (compared to other years) and pretty much have free reign. Mrs. DD in really into the BBQ side of things, so I showed her around the cool BBQ joints and we got a bunch of sauces for the upcoming smoking season. To my dismay, there weren't really all that many great hot sauces at this show. Now... I'm not saying there weren't plenty of HOT (freaking HOT to be exact) sauces, just nothing that I'd actually use on food. The only one I bought was Danny Cash's "Smokin' Tailpipe". It's a chipotle sauce with a nice kick from habaneros. Good solid sauce. Had it not been for the generosity of The Creator and Createss, we would have had to purchase some of the good Defcon treats. They were kind enough to bestow some (

Thanks for the fine reporting.

We made it in last night. Actually no real delays (small miracles happen from time to time). Still got the raging flu, which of course made the flight so much more interesting. It's funny how when you are hacking up part of your lung, and theatening to eject it towards the screaming 4-year old sitting in front of you, the parents find a way to shut the screaming cretin up.

We had a great time, as it's impossible not to. I wish we had more time to hang out with everyone like we usualy do, but between cold sweats, puking, and migraine-like headaches, we just couldn't do it. Looking forward to Jungle Jim's Weekend of Fire!
