WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
  • 5 Jalapeño
  • 1 Cayenne
  • 1 Serrano
  • 7 Datil
  • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
  • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

Edit: final list copied to first post from post #40. These seeds were soaked in water on 12/31/12 and planted 1/1/13 \o/

Edit: This list is constantly being updated as new hooks pop. Even though I lost #5 :/ I will not give up as there are 2 other seeds in dat egg mon ....

So much great stuff going on in this glog, Ramon.  I've got my fingers crossed on my MoAs.  Unless I get an early frost here, I should get some ripe ones.  And as I peeked under the one in-ground today, I think I saw some "A" pods.

Thanks for kudos John and back at ya mon, your MoA pod I saw in the other thread looks A+ to me … great job and I hope you OW her for sure. Take mas pictures, I think everyone will love dem, great MoA job along with everything else!!!

Ramon, looks like things are going really well down south of here. Gardens giving you some love, got your International Pirate talk down and your still posting up food shots that are making all the pepper heads hungry! Hope the Missus is doing well. Up here we're still unpacking boxes,honestly I think some of them hooked up in storage and head some little boxes :)

Ramon, just finished getting hungry from here and from first thing this morning. Is a bummer about dried pods losing sweetness. Maybe some salt--am thinking aloud--well, on your glog: would some sea salt, lightly tossed, very very little, help maintain some sweet when dehydrating some peppers? I have pint of JA Hab powder, dried on low, tried a TOUCH of salt, maybe teaspoon for 5 trays, tossed juicy peppers in it; seems to help keep sweet. Wondering if fluke, because JA Hab is so sweet and juicy anyhow. But cannot detect salt in powder. Just thoughts. I don't think it would work with a really dry fresh pepper. Again, just in "enemy territory:" my mind! ;)

I will test a little to see how it affects the powder. Normally I don’t alter powder till I process it further but I’ve been experimenting with some other fruits and veggies too, hope to have a use for da Reaper and the Trinidad Scorp powders soon but the way I’ve been so busy it could be a few months.

A few fresh but very small Whites for a breakfast omelet, sorry no omelet pics cause I thought you’d be sick of dem by now and it was very similar to the last one I shot of gallo pinto inside an omelet.

Geez Ramon... funny looking radishes you got there... Just pulling your chain mon ;) ... looks like your pods are getting smaller as the light gets less intense. How much longer do you have to the season do you think?

 Most of the summer pulls for me have all but a few pods been extremely small but the green ones on da bushes now are looking like they’ll be bigger. That said there are still some small ones still, I figure I need the next setting before they start getting as big as before all da summer heat.

 lol on radishes Rick, wish I had some white ones. Most all my summer pods are small, the hotter it gets the smaller :/ Now that it’s less light (hardly noticeable) the next pull should be back to business as usual. We have a year round season here, you can pull pods all year round but just before winter and just before summer are the largest size pods. Only thing that you can’t do well outside is new starts in the winter, that’s where I went wrong last January when I had poor germ percentages but the ones that do pop are the best cause they turn out to be very strong girls plants, lol.

I have a few others that have popped, mas funky seed JA Habs (my seed from the bell shaped pods and trying to get other variegated to grow) … Scott, no Reaper yet but soon come I hope ...
