WalkGood 2013, 2014 and Beyond

This is my first Glog so excuse what ever mess I may create, lol. Took way to many pictures today (31), so Ill post the first 9 and add more in subsiquent posts but didn't think it a good idea to start out doube or triple posting just for additional pics. I will also be updating the thread over time to show growth, pods and such ... but the first few pics of are of the young ones. While Ive been growing my favorite peppers for around 17 years (guess, lol), I always limited myself to 3 varieties or less. Jamaican peppers/Hab, Jalapeño and Cayenne. When things got too tuff Id milk them till they died off and stop growing for a while and start fresh. Most years I only grew the Jamaicans which are my favorite for cooking, home made sauce and the occasional powder to rub meats with or put into certain recipes.

Current inventory:
 • 5 Jalapeño
 • 1 Cayenne
 • 1 Serrano
 • 7 Datil
 • 15 Jamaican Habs (3 large around 3 years old and 12 less than year old)
 • 12 more to be determined
The young ones below are not that old with the oldest being the JA Habs which are around 3 years old now. I happen to find THP site while looking for advice/knowledge to cure one of my Jalapeños, thanks for all the good info guys/girls! In 2012 I added Datil, Thai hot, Cayenne, Jalapeño and Serrano to the mix, totaling around 41 plants now. Hats off \o_ to those of you who grow many more, dont know how you find the time and patients when things go off. That said, Ive done my fair share of battling aphids, nematodes, snails and white fly to no end over the last 3 years. Fortunately I believe to have things under control for now so Ive decided to add 12 new peppers to the mix from the listed seeds shown below.

Ill select 12 to start near end of December or first week in January from the seeds below and give credit once I get some new ones going :)

Need to start clearing our yard to grow more & more & more peppers ;) (*WG rollseyes*)

Top left to right: two Thai Hot and one Cayenne. Bottom row all Datil. BTW I don't grow everything in clay pots, just happen to get a good deal on a bunch in yard sale for a few bucks.

Huge live Oak in background, there's 5 of them in front yard so the shades hard to avoid in first few hours of sun rise.

8 Jamaican Habs in ground and cherry tomatoe in the pot, I need to find a good place to plant the tomatoe soon.

Top left Serrano and more Datil, I'm probably going to gift a few Datils for xmass and some of the other peppers

Edit: final list copied to first post from post #40. These seeds were soaked in water on 12/31/12 and planted 1/1/13 \o/

Edit: This list is constantly being updated as new hooks pop. Even though I lost #5 :/ I will not give up as there are 2 other seeds in dat egg mon ....

Hi Ramon! Glad to see ya pop in! The MoA seeds you sent me last year were great producers, and I'm definitely hooked on the variety. I ended up making about 4 quarts of peach-bonnet sauce and 4 batches of Jerk chicken with the pods from the 3 plants I grew.
Cheers!
Hola Rick, great to read you like the MoA, its da real ting from JA thanks to Steve and I completely agree with your hooked assessment. If I were to grow few plants the MoA and JA Hab would be my top two picks. Hab a great weekend =)

+1 everyone! Good to see your blog on page one, my friend!

The JA Hab and MoA seeds produced some awesome pods this

Tanks Paul, and thanks again for the awesome powder =)

Hey Ramon!

Glad to see you post.

You certainly have been missed this season!
Hola back at ya Scott and I miss all you guys too life still be hectic down here, but thank Jah da family is doing great, hope alls great on your end too. The season for me has been on auto pilot, amazing how the JA Habs have weathered the bugs, bustin squalls and the lack of attention. Dem girls are hot, they just keep pumpin out the pods compared to the hit all their sisters have taken. Hab a great weekend brethren

Hola to all the great peeps here, I truly miss everyone and woot what great grows everyone has going. The quality and caliber here has gone thru da roof ... I hope everyone is doing great!

Am I still growing, yes but haven’t taken proper care of the ladies in a long time which has lead to fugly plants, some losses and lower yields. But that’s fine, still producing enough to enjoy fresh pods with meals and enough to powder.

I’m preparing a post to share soon and since I don’t have a new glog I’ve decided to play "Wake the Dead," hehe. I’ll try to get in up dis weekend, Hab a great day =)
Ramon buddy, you are back! What a truly great day this is! We have missed your energies on THP :) Good to hear from you and just awesome news to hear you will be posting. Still growing your pods and loving them buddy :D Welcome back

You know the JA Hab has been the killer producer for me for 2 seasons now. Those gals don't care what ma-nature throws their way; they just keep flowering and setting pods even during the murder Tejas summers. I still have one going on the driveway, along with a 5x5x5' white bhut.

Thanks for sharing bro!

I recently ran into a friend that I grew up with and spent many summers at his parents house in the Bahamas. This is where I was first introduced to Bahamian goat peppers and lots of lovely Bahamian seafood. His parents did an excellent job of raising their kids and I thank them for all the good values they passed my way \o_

To make a long story short, he’s now living in NC raising Jersey cattle, horses, a few kids and farming. What a change from the area we grew up in and what does WalkGood know about these superior grazing Jersey beasts … nada … other than what I was told about high butterfat content, superior milk and characteristics that produce incredible tasting cheese.

Mon dis cheese my friend is producing blows the socks off any store bought cheese.

So why am I mentioning this cheese here? Well when he ran into me I loaded him up with peppers and a few months later he gave me some of his first produced picante quesos, woot!!!

Honestly I can’t review these but can provide some feedback. One of the first ones I tried, not pictured here, reminded me of a spicy Gouda with its smooth-texture, somewhat buttery texture and mon dem peppers made her sing like a rock star ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪

The three pictured here; ghost pepper, JA Habanero and Chocolate Scorpion are more textured similar to a fine Cheddar. Add in the fresh pepper taste and Yowza! They’re off the chart in taste, texture and overall pleasing sensation to the pallet ...

Hats off Brett \o_  these are beautiful artisan products rather than the mass-produced stuff I normally buy … lucky me =)

The upper left hand side thiner one is Trinidad Chocolate Scorp, The fat yellow one with the red swirls is JA Hab and the last one is Bhut Jolokia. I haven't spoken with him yet but my guess is that the ones you can not see peppers in the cheese were made with powders I gave him and trust me the taste and heat are there.

Thanks Brett =)

Woot, glad to read my girls are doing you righteous … or I should be saying your treating them right and they’re just reciprocating. I’ve peeked in your glog too brethren and you’ve been rocking the pepper world, hats off mon \o_

Today I had a small harvest from dem bad girls which I threw into the dehydrator for some soon come Xmas salt =)

2hoemnc.jpg

I’m not sure if you’ve powdered dem ladies up lately but you might want to try a mix they’ve been giving me lately. Sweet red bell, onion, garlic, sea salt and lots of JA Hab powders blended together providing a heavenly taste with brilliant coloration. Be for warned without a great desiccant canister the bell will suck the moisture out of da air and create havoc on da mix. Yea I’m still making crazy blends with top secret ingredients ;)

Hab an awesome weekend brethren!!!

making some hot cheese, I'll have to show him this post!
Enjoy those to the max, my friend!
What a perfect match, your pods and his cheese making \o/ Sounds like you’ll be enjoying some soon too …

BTW Paul, I took your MoA powder, allspice berries, garlic powder, onion powder, Rick’s paprika and a few other secret ingredients to make a dry rub for some skinless yard bird breast … delicious … tanks again brethren =)

Glad your old friend shared with you ;)
I’m sure he would say thanks, wish I had enough to share =)

You see! This is why we need you right here brother... the glog springs to action with fascination, intrigue, brilliance and splendour. Pod porn, food porn and just great conversation :D And already my keyboard is drenched in drool... how is it I forgot so quickly that perusing your glog one needs to plastic wrap the keyeboard :banghead:

+1 on 2411!

I have a bunch of the JA Habs in the freezer, which I need to process. And will try the recipe, sounds good!  This fall has been crazy. I've been spending the last 4 weekends processing trees that died last year, needed to do that before they turned to rock..LOL

My goal is to finish up this week. Time to get ready for my 2015! ;)

Ramon I'm glad to read you're back......although the glogs  this year were very, very impressive and time consuming creative.......I missed the spark of info, spontaneity, plant and food photography that your glog  has displayed the previous season.

The cheese looks incredible !....especially the red veined block.

Likewise with the others here that mentioned....my JA Habs rocked again this season.

The chicken dish looks tasty and healthy at the same time.

Hope all is well with you and your family......and best wishes for the upcoming holiday season !

Hope to see it back someday!

Ramon come back buddy!!!  I heard you and Steve have been busy down there,  best of luck with that project!  You know I'm rockin steady again this year with the JA Habs.  One of my favorites and most asked for peppers among friends and family.  Thanks for introducing us to such a wonderful pepper!  Hopefully we will see you soon on here.

Ramon glog was one of my favorites when I was lurking on thp .
He along with KingDennis and Steve plus Nigel sold me on the moas
