I do, but do the farms not have issues like these too? It'd be so great to be able to get Numex peppers all year. I mean I guess there are Anaheims, but the varieties of 6-4 are just so much better than the 9s.

There do appear to be some groups working on New Mexico GMO. One of the articles I ran across says the state is funding development of mosaic virus resistance. NMSU has commentary about the potential benefits too, but yeah, there is a ton of resistance to the change from the locals. Seems to be a belief that all the heritage varieties would be lost to big agriculture. Nothing would please me more than for NMSU to lead the way and put the first GM 6-4s out there. Or I guess they'd need a new digit, however that works. But they're not going to

And actually, there are GM peppers in china. They are illegal, and virus resistant. They were created at a university and then some how got into the hands of growers. If you know anything about the chinese views on Intellectual Property you could see how this makes sense. Â Really sorry, but I cant find my sources on this right now. If i come across them I will post them.

Why aren't there any GM peppers in the states? well the regulatory hurdles are incredible right now so new GM varieties are rarely ever profitable outside of row crops. Also, I don't think they are needed. Monsanto's new X3R line is really good with virus resistances, so the GM answer is just not needed.
Monsanto sends me paychecks for chatting them up on seed growing forums. Big huge paychecks on paper made from GM cotton.
No but for real, its that I am completely nuts about the Hatch, New Mexico peppers, and just want to be able to buy them all year, and with no bugs living in the tips. GM can make that possible, and so much more. I started growing because I needed moarrr. Its OCD and addictions combined.

Awesome info all around, i've learnt a lesson for the future. Just to bring the post back to topic, i've decided to pull the plug on the plant. The alternate nutrients haven't had an effect and I dont think I have the time to play with it any longer. Thanks all!

Considering that I had given up on the plant and stopped watering it, there are some possibilities -

1) Too much watering? Kept the medium moist/wet most of the time when fertilizing with masterblend mix
2) Higher P GH nutrients helped kick the plant into budding? The plant got 2 waterings with the higher P before I stopped watering.
3) Just a timing thing.. I was early to sound the alarm?
