food-bev What do?

So for my dads birthday he got the following: big can of malt extract, bag of crystal malt, bag of goldings and a bag of fuggles hops and yeast.
My question being what do we need to do? I get the idea that you add the grain to some water then boil it and add yeast at various stages then, cool to the point of yeast happiness add to water, throw some hops on top then rack of at some point?

Any help much appreciated!

you are on the right track.

boil everything, then let it cool, i am assuming the amount is for 23litres?.

the must(that's brewers talk for the mud) then goes into a 23 litre plastic carboy for 1 week, of course you sprinkle brewers yeast on the must. if you use a bunge, you will see the fermentation stop after about 10 days. you then rack the mud and put it into another 23 litre glass carboy. walk away and let it sit for 30 days. you then rack the beer again. this time, you are going to bottle the mud but your intent is to carbonate the beer. with this you take 1/2 tsp of corn sugar per bottle, fill the bottle with the beer and shake it to disolve all the sugar.

then, cap the bottles and let it sit for 2 weeks. after 2 weeks take a bottle and see if it carbonated. voila, you have beer!
