What should I do?

The plant in question is an orange bhut Copenhagen. There is three plants in this container, should I let them party and see how they grow, attempt to separate because I would hate to kill a purdy plant or snip the two smallest ones and let the big one reign supreme.

Thanks guys!

Gone both ways with that and really I seen little difference both turn out healthy. Try both ways and compare for yourself.

Plants will compete for nutrients. One will win and the others will take whats left over and not be as healthy or big.

So...  my opinion, against the grain as usual. LOL

When I think of plants "competing for nutrients", I see this as a very real issue - but not of much concern when it's the same species.  If you tell me that you are planting two different plants altogether, and they have asymmetrical feeding habits, well OK.  That's real competition.  But if you have several plants of the exact same species, you just need to keep them fed.  Yes, you'll have to feed them a little more.  But you'll get more output in the same space.

Most of us here don't ever come close to getting the maximum potential out of our garden plants.  So this is really straining at a gnat.

If it were me, I'd grow them all.   That's just me.

Actually, I also have a few multi plant pots going. But I am not seeking max yield from them. I also will be feeding heavy later.

I should have added earlier...  I have a poblano this year that was a double.  I have it in a container side-by-side with another poblano.  Same mix, same ferts, same, same, same.  And the double is actually outperforming the single next to it.  And not just by a margin of 2-to-1. LOL

I think there are some very good reasons for going multi-plant, but I'm just keeping it under my hat, so as not to muddy the water, here... ;)

I would just pot it up into a bigger pot, feed it heavier, and roll the dice.

Unless you really need a big harvest and can't afford to gamble, then of course just play it safe and cull 2

There in no reason to assume you can't get a big harvest from twins. You just need to feed them adequately and give them footroom.
Ever had a plant just kick it for no good reason? I have a few multi plant containers going as insurance of some pods. Restarts are out of the question this late in the game.

I was in the same situation you were. Three days ago I decided to separate each plant to put them in thier own pot. After the first day a few looked a little sad, but now are doing fine.

If that pot is final home then cull two. If you're providing them with plenty of space via bigger pot or bed then I personally would cull one of them.

I figured since the plant was less than half the size of the others I would have to separate or kill...

Definitely not a fan of killing my plants as nature will probably do that soon haha! They look like they're struggling right now but I am sure they will get much better. Especially since they were already smaller than everything else I assumed not much to lose.

The soil was somewhat dry so they pulled up with ease :) hopefully not much root damage and it'll bounce back quick!

Every other plant I have is murdering those bhuts in size and I really didnt want to kill it so I decided to split!
