bottles-jars What size bottles to use

As I am getting more and more into the research of startin my own biz. I was wondering from those of you who already sell Hot Sauce what size bottle do most of you use?

creardon-

this post probably got lost on the first go around, but a few days later, WELCOME!

and the bottle question is kind of subjective. The majority of hot sauces are sold in the 5 oz woozy size but it all depends on the consistency of the sauce and if it can be sold in a 10oz size for a competitive price.

"Open-top" jars, can you describe what you mean by that? Larger mouthed sauce bottles (like salad dressing or BBQ sauce) or maybe canning jars with the lid and ring?

And again- :welcome:

Yeah the open top jars I was speaking of were the canning jars. I had found some 4 oz canning jars here locally and was wondering if those would work.

I would suggest if using a canning jar get ones without quilts patterns that make labeling a pain.

I personally use mostly 8oz woozies and a few 5oz for sending samples(I have yet to find a smaller one for samples).

http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/ good variety regardless of which one you choose.

So far I've been only using 5oz woozies for my sauces. SL is right that bottle size is subjective, and depends on the nature, intent, and economies of scale of the bottled product. High-end gourmet sauces usually come in 5oz bottles, BBQ sauces and marinates usually come in much higher volumes - 10 once+ bottles, because the nature of the product is for higher-usage applications. Experiment with bottle sizes, see what works for your product - and fun with it! On a somewhat related side note, I saw a really interesting coca-cola bottle yesterday at Walmart - it was round, and looked just like a Christmas ornament.

I use 12 oz barbeque sauce style (wide mouth) bottles - I tried 5oz woozies but my sauce is too thick to flow decently out of those

I've found specialty bottle to have the best price for small (<10 cases) orders. SKS bottle has free shipping on orders over $250 - I'll probably try them when my volume grows

+1 to Nicole on the hot fill in plastic and mini-bottle source.

Plastic bottles are usually only workable for full-on processing plants, not for small run processors or for hobby sauce makers. Plastic bottles have unique way of being sanitized which is not available to the general public and if they are filled with a hot liquid, they usually melt.

no image available, minimum order qty 96 @ .45 each-
