whats a good way to help start chilli seeds faster?

Not sure if there is a fast way to start them.
I have tried multiple ways this year and found that all pretty much took the same amount of time, but have also found that some seeds take longer to germinate than others

I have used the Jiffy pucks, starting right in the soil and covering the pot with seran wrap, and have started some in a wet paper towel inside a ziplock baggie. All of the diff methods worked for me

Check out some of the threads here for some very good info

Here is another that you might want to check out

Heat and moisture are all they need.

For my latest seeds I pushed them down into potting soil then covered them with vermiculite. Moistened them then covered with seran wrap. I lifted the wrap twice a day to get some fresh air in there as well.

My habaneros popped in 6 days with this method with a soil temperature of about 25-27 Celsius.

you might want to try this method:

i know there is another more detailed article in the forum on this technique but you will have to search for it, i tried the basic search on "scarification" but no results were found.

good luck.

I keep mine on the warmer/wetter/humid side for the first 3-4 days. I start getting sprouts at that time, then back down a bit after that. Everyone has a technique that works for them. My 1st 98 cell tray this year has germinated all 50 plus types. So far so good. I think sometimes people might get results with scarification as a last resort, but sometimes I think those seeds are ready to pop anyhow from being exposed to heat and moisture already. It is always worth a try though. Good luck and good growing. pp

The best method is patience.... and they'll pop before you know it. I wish I could plant mine and watch them grow in a day like Jack's magic beans, but it just isn't meant to be.

Yours is the kind of question that precedes questions/posts about dead or dying plants.

Get a book and leave the chile plants alone, they've been doing this for a very long time without your intervention.

A heat mat at 83 degrees with constant humidity - controlled enviroment can help take 30 day germ down to 14 day. The plants thrive with the heat and roots are rocking . IMHO

speaking from (limited) experience ...

see to get the best/freshest seeds ...

It took me 20+ days to sprout some Scotch Bonnet (seller A) and only 8 days for a Bhut's (seller B)

cheers, Al

ETA:... under equal conditions

Poped 8 out of 9 Butch Ts in from 10-16 days.
