pests What's this bug and do I want it on my plants?

Anybody know what this bug is and should I squash it? Normally, I would just kill it, but I'm going to see if it might be beneficial first. I didn't see it eating the plant so I left it for the time being . . .

Idk to me it looks like some kind of stink bug. Does it have like a needle on the mouth? I'd kill to be safe.

I just put it outdoors and that thing started squatting on it within 5 minutes.

I think you guys are right about it being an assassin bug. My first pic shows a large proboscis (I thought it was a leg at first lol). Thanks all for the help!

After further research, I think it's a damsel bug. Similar to an assassin but its neck is thicker than the head and the antennae are short and stubby. The hind legs also look thicker than they should be, kinda like grasshopper legs.

A Chinch bug is a turf pest. I doubt it'd be on this plant.


It is in the Hermiptera order though.
