I am already starting my plan and budget for next years grow. My wife would like a section in my greenhouse for other plants. As such I am thinking of starting less plants, but starting a whole lot earlier, in hopes to achieve more from each plant. I also have started cutting certain plants out of my list, to switch them for other plants that might be heavier producers. Either way, I was wondering what the best time to start thinking of sourcing my seeds for the season. I am saving seeds from my crop, but want to also try new peppers next season.

Yeah, yesterday would have been a good day to start 
I begin every season with that same plan. Somehow, it never really ends up that way. There are just way too many interesting varieties out there that I "need" to try!

Yep. Yesterday, today, tomorrow. Next week, etc. Seeds' germ rates go down as they age, but many remain viable years down the road. Even if you don't grow every thing you order, it's good to have trade fodder or cool stuff to give fellow pepper ppl on need...hogleg said:Yesterday
I been ordering seeds for 2018 for months now. Still need to order a few more. And I'll likely end up ordering more stuff that I haven't even heard of yet. One cool thing about this hobby is, seeds tend to be CHEEP... There's very little to lose of you over order seeds
Thanks a lot for the responses everyone. I definitely will start counting what I have and look into what I would like to plant for next season. My crop will be down next season, but I hope for have a bit more variety and not so much of the 3 or 4 of the same plant in the garden, instead maybe 2 of each. The air is cooling down a lot at night and I'm guessing maybe I will get another month before frost has hit us. It will be bitter sweet to say goodbye to this season. I don't want to lose all the plants that I have going on, but I really look forward to next season. Trouble I will now have is choosing what to actually grow and when to start. Over the next couple months, I'm sure my plan will change a dozen or more times lol.
Talking about seeds here I can't help but ask what the earliest anyone has ever started their seeds? I was thinking of starting a handful of plants to take advantage of the still warm weather. I would move them indoors under lights over the winter. I was thinking of a bit of experiment to see production difference next year over plants that I will start in January.

yeah I think this weekend will be figuring out what to grow and I will start looking around for seeds. I started my seeds on February 8 this year, but I definitely want to start much earlier next season. I have to look at what I have for seeds now, and I am in serious considerations of starting a few plants real soon. Our short season has me on the edge of my seat. There are a few plants in my garden that are just starting to flower and I think there is maybe 3-4 weeks left in my season before the frost really starts threatening in the mornings. But out with the old will make way for the next season, which will be just as exciting as this year.
