wife say I screwed up

I'm being nagged.

Wife says that because I tammped the soil smooth in my solo cups , that the seed won't be able to push through. Now mind you all I did was make it smooth, I did not pack it.

Here is what I have done:

Double red solo cups (holes in bottom of inside cup)

Organic seed soil (mixed to cookie dough consistancy with tapwater)

Compleatly filled cups with moistened soil.

Chopsticked a 1/4 inch deep hole in soil.

Placed three seeds in each hole (one seed hole per cup)

Placed towel over heat mat and placed cups on mat (removed towel after about 5 days, heat of soil better now about 80f)

Humidity dome over everything (does hang over tv tray about an inch, not a secure fit)

Fan blowing on low threw small windows in dome (removed fan after seeing that in dropped my soil temp a bit)

One bulb grow light 4 inches from top of dome(removed light wad told not needed untill we see green)

I have bottom watered once (up to the first line in cup maybe 2inch)

I spritz soil top daily to maintain moisture.

Today is day ten

All is well, right?

I can tell you I was 100% shocked a few days ago when I had babies push through sand 60 days later. Mind you there were already plants growing in the cups and these were the second seeds planted in the beginning. Once the sand is wet it becomes a hard crust unless you break it up. My seedlings had no issue pushing through.

Your seeds should sprout fine.

'Placed three seeds in each hole (one seed hole per cup)' How about 3 seeds per 3 holes, then you can save every sprout easily.

Fan blowing on low threw small windows in dome (removed fan after seeing that in dropped my soil temp a bit)  You'll need the fan when you get larger sprouts.

One bulb grow light 4 inches from top of dome(removed light wad told not needed untill we see green)  You'll need lights when you get sprouts.

I'm being nagged.  That's our job!

The rest of the set up looks great.

i think that you just overcomplicated things a bit ... imho
double cups not needed... you just need to keep the soil moist (not wet) and room temperature high enough and if the seeds are ok, they'll sprout for sure...

If i have enough seeds I just spread them around one wider cup, put a thin layer of soil over them and sprinkle water once a day.... and magic happens within three weeks for sure

and yes ... I know the sprouting happens faster because of the heating mat and higher temps... so you should soon see first sprouts . in a few days i bet - you did not screw up

Do you have a thermostat on the heat mat? If not I'd highly recommend you get one, as those heat mats can end up cooking the seeds. Also, keep in mind that once they sprout, you should remove them from the heat mat. Looks and sounds good otherwise!

Well.... and one more thing..... you''ll want to stop spritzing the tops once they sprout, and switch to bottom-watering. Keeping the soil surface wet invites the damping off fungus, which can kill your plants. Keeping a fan on them once they sprout will help keep the surface dry, as well as help strengthen the stems.

You'll be alright I think. I had seeds that took two or three weeks to germ. I have since learned that if you just leave it, you might be surprised. So I am leaving my last little square to see if the last two seeds germinate or not.
