Finally got me some lights and a heat mat...

The trays are the self-watering Burpee 32-cell type..Hopefully they will maintain more consistent moisture levels.

This is what I sowed:

Madame Jeanette (Meatfreak), 6
Bahamian Goat (FadeToBlack), 6
NagaBrain (romy6), 8
Trinidad Scorpion, 4
7 Pot Yellow, 8
Cumari do Para (capsidadburn), 8
Bonda ma Jacques x 7 Pot Yellow (Spicegeist), 4
Chupetinha, 4

C. annuum
Doux Tres Long des Landes (Meatfreak), 6
Poblano, 8
Zapotec Jalapeño, 12
Chiltepin, 8
California Wonder, 4
Chilhuacle Rojo, 8
Thai Garden Birdseed, 4
Ashe County Pimento (kentishman), 4

There are a few spots still open. Probably will sow NuMex 6-4 and some Morouga, because people are asking for it....

Really interesting stuff on the Nagabrain progress. Maybe it's interesting to make a summary of all the color variations you are having of the Nagabrain? Each with their specifics that they have. That way you can maybe ask people to help with stabilizing it and have a guideline what it should look and taste like. It's pretty hot over here as well, 90F during the day and 75F during the night! I'm not complaining since my plants are loving it, only the Pubescens keep dropping their flowers. All your varieties are doing great and once they are starting to show color I will take some pics again. Got a question about the Brito's Mystery Peach, did the peppers stand up when they were formed and still small? So far every one is up and not hanging but are still rather small.

I'm heading your way Tuesday for 2 weeks and the ac is not working in the RV. Looks like I better put down the watering can and pick up some 134a. I might just have to stop by and enjoy yours. My seedlings are an inch high with 2 sets of leaves. let's see if mom can keep them alive while on vacation.

Where you coming to down here? You probably might want to find a shade tree for the RV, and a BIG fan .

I heard that! They had to be stanking! LOL I know I would be!

Awesome looking pods!

Aw, damn, can you imagine? And before that no window screens even...How in the heck did they sleep at night, without even electricity to run a fan?

Thanks Scott!

Thanks for the thoughts on how to handle growing out all the different NagaBrain variations...I've started a little personal log, with photos of the pods from the individual plants, written descriptions, etc. Otherwise there's no way I can remember everything about every pod I've saved seeds from...And I've also thought about asking for help with the breeding...I just don't have the room in my garden to grow all of them.

I saw all that rain water in your garden....It's hard to imagine weather like that right now....Every time I go down and grab a bunch of Doux Tres Longs I think "I need to snap a pik of this for Stefan..." Those are some crazy productive plants, and the giant red pods are gorgeous...Really fun to grow—beautiful, bushy, dark green plants in my very best bed in the country garden....

All of the Brito's pods were pretty small in my last year's grow, but I always figured it was because my containers were too small, which probably caused the plants to be root bound. I can't remember if they set upwards or not, but I think I would have remembered it if they had...I'll check my photos...

This was taken in the middle of August 2012...All the pods seem to be pendant, at least in this photo:

Britos1.jpg

Here's a pik last week of Doux Tres Long Plant No. 1. Something had been gnawing on that bottom pod, and I didn't notice until after I had taken the photo. Pretend you don't see that nut grass:

doux1.jpg

Now that I look at that Doux Tres Long pik again I realize I should have put something in there for scale, because they just look like regular cayennes....The shortest pod in the photo is probably 8 inches long.

Yeah sure ... That's what they all say ;) :D

Gary, your kickin ass and taking names man! Your in Shreveport? Not to far from my house in TN! Might have to hook up one of these days. It would be nice to get all the southern growers together one day!

I'm into that, Jamison...Seems like there's a lot of us chile heads down South!

Stripped a few of my plants this morning to make room for the last round of pods that set right before the heat...These are the Chocolate NagaBrains:

NagaBrainChoco_1.jpg

My new favorite super hot, the Hippy Yellow 7:

These NagaBrains are from Plant No. 1. Several of them seem to be 7 Pot shaped:

Made it!...okay more reverse browsing is in order still.....those Nagabrains are lookin really great. How are the Chocolate Naga Brains? Typical earthy brown pod taste, or....? The brown traits are probably recessives in both, but  I 'd guess from the Naga side , as brains are so stable.

As to the what they did before AC here..... SUBSISTED!

Okay , Its Friday Houston  traffic time, and I must leave the Hive ....."I will not kill anyone, I will not kill anyone, I will........"........ :liar: :shh: :woohoo:

Beautiful pods.  They almost look fake they are so perfect.  How does the chocolate nagabrain taste? Heat?

I was reading when GNSLR posted about the nagabrains also.

Thanks for the pictures Gary, I'm glad the Doux Tres is doing good for you and you like the flavor :) The Brito looks very similar over here and judging from your picture it looks that they start off standing up and start hanging when the pods get bigger. The plants are just getting started so need to wait a bit longer for more pods :) I wouldn't mind helping you out next season with a couple of Nagabrain plants, I got the space for it. The harvest looks great! Am I correct when I see the naga shape on those Chocolates?

Thanks for stopping by Dave! I don't believe I have the patience to slog through all those pages of my blathering...

"Earthy" describes the Chocolate NagaBrain well...To be honest, however, my sinuses are toast right now, and I can barely even taste my Yellow 7s. Jamie has a great review of the the Chocolate NagaBrain on his blog...

Sometimes I try to think what life was like for the Native Americans that lived in Louisiana during the summertime before we smelly Europeans arrived...No fans, no window screens, I wonder if they had even figured out mosquito netting...Probably some serious natural selection going on, because I know my thin-skinned lily white ass would not make it through the first summer!

If I had to live in Houston in the summer I would have killed someone already! More natural selection?

Wow, thanks Pia! Check Jamie's (romy6) glog for an excellent description of the NagaBrain's flavor and aroma...As for the heat, some of the pods are definitely super hots, while others are more in the 500K or so range. We will definitely be selecting for heat going forward with successive generations...

Cool, thanks Stefan! Look for another Doux Tres Long pik below...And I have been neglecting to take pix of the awesome Calabrese a Mazzetto—I've never seen anything quite like it, and it's exactly the pepper my wife requested! What are the chances?

I would love to have some help stabilizing both the Red and Chocolate NagaBrain varieties. I'll get you some seeds out in time for next season, as soon as I figure out which plant is producing the true Reds...

Yes, the Chocolates are presenting the true shape I'm looking for, at least they are true to the F1 cross, and they are a very nice size as well...

Them NagaBrains are looking pretty gnarly! Bet you them puppies are searing hot!

Lol, thanks Jamison...They're not the hottest peppers I've had, but they do command respect...

A couple of harvest pix from this morning...This shot of Doux Très Long des Landes (meatfreak) is for Trippa... I told my wife these pods were 10 inches long:

doux2.jpg

Ashe County Pimento (kentishman). This variety is now compulsory for my garden. Sugary nuggets of deliciousness:

ashe1.jpg

Chile de Onza, (left, CPI) and New Mexico 6-4 Heritage (right, CPI). The part of the garden these pods came from is experiencing daily nuclear temps, around 120ºF. I expect larger pods when in cools off, around the end of September:

Great poddage Gary. Just can't get enough . I love the chocolate nagabrains more then the reds I had last year. Much cleaner . Maybe a little less hot but I only tried one pod. I would agree in the 500,000 range which is more than plenty hot for me. NIce floral flavor and burns lasts a long time. It attacked my tongue and never ventured into the back of my throat. Which is a good thing. Even after a nice meal and warmed my insides nicely. I would say they are more naga flavored than brain. No soapy flavor at all. Just a nice floral citrusy taste.

Huge pods .

 Thanks again G Man!!!!!!!!!!

Your description is awesome J-Daddy! Thanks so much for that....I don't know if it's all the dust and pollen from the gardening and yard work messing with my sinuses or what, but I can't taste or smell much of anything right now—I remember last year I never really got the taste of a Yellow 7 until the middle of December...So your description of the Chocolate NagaBrain is much appreciated! I reckon I need to send you some of the Red pods, too...

Really good photos too...Thanks!

These are very nice, they should meet my Choco Bhut x Douglahs...

THSC Y7s are very nice, the plants I grow are descended from their seed... I've managed to grow more than one plant and select in the past few years too...
Okay, sorry to ask, you probably covered this a few pages ago... Nagabrain is a Dorset Naga x Brain Strain?  And it's brown because...
