My WiriWiri is loaded down with pods and I am starting to wonder if I should be pruning off some. First time growing a wiri wiri, so not sure if they are supposed to be this prolific .
My answer is "depends".... If you want a bunch of full size ripe fruit start pulling blooms now as those will not ripen before your average first frost date. If you're bringing the plant in you might want to wait a few more weeks but unless you have grow lights that's about it IMO. YMMV
thanks. It is a nice problem to have actually. I will think on this. First time growing but I love the taste of wiri wiris and I might just invest in some lights to keep it going.
But the ones you have there are way more oblong than anything that I've come across yet. (or read about) I've been growing these for seasons now. Yes, the get some slight variation, but I'm not sure if yours fall within that.
Not trying to be a jerk, just saying. If you want some "for sure" Wiri Wiri seeds for next season, send me a PM.
I ate one yesterday off a plant I gave to a friend. Definitely tastes like a wiri wiri so no complaints there. Fairly hot too, somewhat hotter than wiriwiri pods I have had in the past. Weird part was at one point the roof of my mouth went numb,
I have never had that happen even with super hots. It had a very long linger too, could still feel a bit of tingle 20 mins after. They may be a bit pointy headed but I am happy so that is all that matters.
Well I am satisfied it is wiri wiri.. Taste is right, and wiriwiri taste is distinctive . The heat on them can vary widely from what I have read, and that one was hitting at top of range for sure. It wasn't a 20 minute hard burn just a pleasant linger of flavour and tingle, in fact it was a slow build over about a min or so then fell off to that that background hum after about 3-4 mins.
