Mine are hotter.  Maybe it's because I grow them where the weather is hotter.  I don't know.  But I have taste-tested yours from across America, and mine are hotter than yours.

Different conditions do tend to allow the (perceived?) cap count to vary. My plants throw much hotter pods during the height of the August heat wave, it seems.

But, truth be told, most zones will have a few heat waves, to help push out those killer stresspods.
 
Summers here are over 100 for days on end.  That could account for some of it.  But I also use Dutch Buckets, and let the reservoir run out till the leaves of the peppers are very droopy before filling again (not on purpose).  That might account for some of it too.  But I can hardly eat any of my peppers due to their heat.  While yours are easy to eat.  So there's something going on.

This is probably it, Bicycle808.  I really shouldn't have questioned anyone's peppers like I did.  Do you still recommend the Zapotec jalapeno, btw?  I am torn between trying it and Fresno for a salsa pepper next year.

I am completely in love with the Zapotec Jalapeños.  Hands-down, my favorite.  Only possible "criticism" is that they are hotter than a lot of other Jalapeños, so they can be hard on the folks you give them away to.  But yeah, they are the total package, as far as Jalapeños go, in my opinion. Decent sized, like a medium-plus on average, with meaty walls, juicy sensations, intense flavor, beautiful corking, and they're just so dang uniform...each one is very much like the others, which wasn't true for the other Jalapeños I grew this year. I'll likely grow a bunch of Zapos again next year, and maybe a few plants of a new "challenger" in the Jalapeño category.... but maybe not.  As of right now, it's tough to even imagine a better Jalapeño.
 
I know a lot of ppl are wild about Fresnos, but I don't get it.  I mean, I like to see them at the grocery b/c they are often sold ripe, whereas Jalapeños tend to be sold green.... and grocery Jalapeños tend to suck.  So, yeah, i'm glad that Fresnos are an option at the Mercado de los Gringos so often, but I still can't imagine growing them in my garden.

I grow fresnos and they are still yummy
