Candice didn't you post much earlier in this thread about a rural supplies place in WA to get cheap perlite. I was going to go and get some but I still have half a bag and I'm not at the stage of needing it just yet. Getting close though.

Yep Agrishop in Forrestdale. We also have a Garden City Plasticin Canning Vale. Haven't seen perlite there but I'm sure they have it. Usually they only deal with businesses or large orders though.

$26 p/100l perlite & vermiculite pick up. (Pretty sure they have pick ups in most states).
$60 postage for orders under $400.

So no cheaper then ebay then?? Ah well at least I can buy it on ebay without worrying if I am getting a good deal. Still would like to find a good supplier of Pumice though ...

i'm finding a lot of people that grow chillies also grow cacti. Cacti were my first thing into gardening. They are pretty neglected now that i spend all my time on chillies though.
I went to the dept of agriculture yesterday and took in my seedlings to confirm what it was. He agreed that it was bacterial leaf spot but then later when ii was looking through one of their books i realised it is more than likely target spot which has the rings in the middle like my first lot of plants. The officer then said it could be that too but cant be 100% without expensive tests. Either way vthe book said that they can both be carried on with seed. I asked him about sulfur and he agreed that you can use it but like i thought it can control but not cure the disease. So I've chucked all the plants except for the seedlings not affected which i will keep quarantined. I have doused the hothouse with chlorine and left for almost 24hrs as well as run that through one of the systems.
New seeds planted and will be placed back in there tonight.
Let me show you something...
Back in 2009, I was hit fairly hard by the stuff. This is what my babies looked like before it hit me.
Just gettin some sun today. Airing out the ole greenhouse.

This was after my sulpher and AACT applications...bouncing back

Time for a bit of a June update:

Back in early May I got hit REAL HARD by a nasty strain of fungus that nearly wiped out everything I transplanted into the garden from the greenhouse. I assume all the CRAZY ass wet weather Georgia was getting didn't set to well too long with the peppers. I nearly had 90% leaf drop on EVERY PLANT and things were looking very bad, so bad that I started 150 more plants just in case things went down the toilet. After a bit of sulfur treatments everything has bounced back with extreme vigor and this season is shaping up to be a good one! Everything is fine and dandy down at the big garden and I will post pics of that as soon as I get down there with the Ole camera. But for now here are some things from my personal backyard gardens.

As you can see. A full recovery is VERY possible :)

wow they look great, beautiful plants well done. You are a very good grower.
I dont think you get what im saying though. I understand that the plants can bounce back (which they obviously have) (new growth wont be affected and old growth drops off) but if you are saving seeds from the plants (my business) then they can carry on the disease. You can "control" tha bacteria/fungus but not "cure" it. I would hate to sell seeds that are infected. The only thing I could do is then treat the seeds with something that is 100% effective. The most effective thing I've heard as someone mentioned earlier and what I have read in various books is the 60 degree hot water bath for 30mins. I don't know how that would affect germination rates though as temps that high can kill seeds and is it 100% foolproof. To me I just dont think it is worth finding out as a business, if it were just my hobby sure then, but I would either be selling infected seeds or ones with low germination rates.
I think it is just safer starting over. If it were just a hobby then I'd give it a go.

Can you say 100% that the seeds inside he infected plants dont carry on the disease?

I just got quoted (from the one in brisbane) 40 bucks all up with postage via courier to my house (incl.GST)

On another positive note got a Choc Bhut up tonight (20 days to germinate) and a Corno De Toro Rosso (5 days to Germinate) , Hopefully get some more by the end of the weekend.

Geting envious of everyone getting seeds and hooks! I didn't get my chilli seeds in the mail today :( now at the earliest it will be Monday. Can't sow them anyway because there is no room under the lights yet.

GROW YOU PLANTS GROW! :banghead:

I see what your saying and I totally understand your concern. I would HATE the idea of getting some really cool seeds for varieties I've been wanting to try out, only to put my time into them and have them all get the "funk"...lol By 60 degree, do you mean C? It probably is safer and puts your mind at ease to start over. While I can't say 100% that the seeds aren't causing any future disease in plants grown out from those seeds, I can say I have never experienced the direct result of such "notions". I'm pretty hard headed to a fault and I guess I just don't buy the idea that the genetics are forever at risk due to the seeds, rather than conditions. To me its one of those "what came first, the chicken or the egg" type of things...lol  Glad you got a plan in order though! Good luck to you and if you ever get the "funk" again, I will personally come down undah and cristen/bless your grow area myself! :high: :)

Hey Guru you grow some damn fine specimens! I would probably marry one of your plants! :high:
There's plenty of the girls to go around! I like to watch ;)

Awesome, that's cheaper than I was quoted delivery.

Got my first choc bhut and choc hab up tonight as well. Those thing (and yellows - like fatalii and 7 pod) seem to take the longest. About 3 weeks here too for germination

Hey you can come down and bless them anyway, your plants look amazing and I hope mine can look as good as yours. Fingers crossed I wont be getting it again otherwise I may just have to skip growing here for a year.

Had a day potting up today. I have come to the conclusion that Jiffy Pots blow.

I put 2 identical aged Yellow 7 pot/pods in a Jiffy Pot and 1 in a small Plastic Pot. The one in the pot is probably 10 times bigger then the one in the jiffy pot and the root ball was not even comparable. It seems that the Jiffy pots themselves absorb all the moisture and the medium inside gets dry and wet spots making for piss week root balls.

So I have now simply started potting up into the initial plastic ones.

My outside chilli's. newly potted up (except the 4 on the right at the front)

IMG_20110820_172418.jpg

The whole clan so far (minus a Choc Bhut and Corno de toro Rosso Hook)

Shitty photos again but after a day of potting up and messing about laziness took hold

EDIT: Also note my latest sweet score at bunnings , those black trays under the pots are only 4 bucks each and are freakin perfect as pot saucers and to put all my seedlings on.

Lookin' good trippa!

On jiffy pots:.....

They suck! I salvaged a few terracotta pots yesterday that I had tried to start some plants in last year (I was too late, and now I'm thinking plants were restricted by pots too) and the jiffy pots were STILL intact in the soil... After 10+ months in shitty Victorian winter, covered in weeds.

Yeah I have been stripping all mine off (mainly out of curiosity of the root ball condition and after the first one all of them have had the same treatment) of the root ball before planting them on into bigger pots (I had heard dodgy things about them but they seemed like a good idea at the time, now I know I'll never bother with them again)

Yeah, I considered that too but they seemed pretty soggy and weak so I assumed they'd degrade.. Not so.

I've had no problems with them, I pull the mesh off when I pot up,
I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow showing the roots after they have been potted up into those white cups for 3 weeks
