I remember Potawie got 3rd place in a contest by TheChileman a few years ago with his whippets tail.

This should be interesting, i've got some pusa jwala going here :)

I'm really hoping some of my "Whippet's tail X Chinese 5 color" crosses have more length to them this generation. Big Jim never grows very big for me, big chile hybrid seems to grow much bigger in my environment. I think the Guinness record is still the BigJim recorded at 13.5 inches(34.3 cm) but I've seen Whippet's tails around or over 34cm.
The problem with the Whippet's tail is they usually curl up which makes it very hard to measure accurately and fairly
According to this article, someone has turned in a 17" chile, but not sure if it has been officially confirmed yet.

Don't have any Whippet's Tail seeds, and my growlist is already pretty ridiculous, or I would join you guys.

I always get my NM chiles from the Lytles and noticed that the Big Jims were considerably longer in the 2011 season than I had ever seen. It is not uncommon to pull a few pods out that look to be about 12 inches, but this time there were many that were in the 12-14 inch range. By that, I mean at least a third of each 40 pound sack was like that. Unreal. The chile rellenos this year have been monsters. Here is an article on that with a short video.

im in sounds like fun does anybody have some of these long varieties available for trade I would like to try some big jim, whippets tail, pinochio nose.

I only have Holy Mole 9 inches long max and Cayenne Thick 6 1/2 to 7 inches long max so hopfully I can get them that big and try to cross them with my thai dragon to see what I get.

Its simply up to everyone to decide what type they want to grow and find their own seeds. Maybe next year we can all use the same seed source but its kind of late to organize it all, and right now it seems people want to try different varieties. I'll see if I have any extra whippet's tail seeds but I don't think I have many left

Unofficially I had won but Luigi's late entry was excepted and he beat me by half a centimeter, so I took second place. A week after the competition I had even bigger chiles :(

Not my biggest but good and long

In inches... Please....

I prefer metric, but either way is good

Oh sorry. 2nd place by a hair's width. My memory got fuzzy there, i entered the competition but didnt submit as my results are just too shameful.

I don't like a lot of rules, how about just largest pod with no start or finish day and see if someone can beat the Guinness record? We can keep it ongoing with a "current champ", this way we can see what the Ozzies and others are doing in our winter. I doubt anyone has any overwintered plants and even if they do, bring it on as far as I'm concerned. I'm always open to ideas if this isn't to everyone's liking, I just need feedback
Ongoing "current champ" sounds excellent, no plants barred, bring your own seeds! But if you have a yearly winner, it would take in both hemisphere's grow season. Yearly winner awarded every Dec 31st type of thing. Maybe the THP Admin could create a "Large Pod King/Queen" sticker each year kinda like the "Throwdown" winners tags.

Regardless, the pix on this thread are going to be priceless. Who doesn't like a biggggg pod.....

i'll toss in a prize or 2... whether it be hot sauce, powder, dry pods, seed, or maybe a gift certificate providing website development goes as planned...
longest pod with a pic posted by the end of the year. i'd suggest metric as the standard for measurement- just because americans were to stubborn to sign on doesn't mean we should inflict our old system on the rest of the world.

Hmmm ... I do have Big Jim on my growlist this year.

The only thing I've ever grown that came anywhere close to 17" was this:

I'm pretty sure that doesn't count though ...

This isn't a submission because I didn't grow it but here's is the longest from a case of italian long hots we got in today. It won't break any records but it has some impressive length to it.

It measures 9 inches or 23 centimeters with the bend. Maybe 9.5 if it were strait.
