organic My Organic Back Yard Raised Bed Garden In Las Vegas - Four 4x8 Raised Beds

I only grow peppers during summer. During winter i grow all my greens and other winter veggies. I plant my peppers ever 1 sq ft and let them grow into each other so they can stay cool enough and keep the soil shaded. For your tomatoes, if you want to grow larger ones, make sure you choose heat...

This is awesome. I've never seen a full pepper grow in the under current before. Are you guys still using it? What are you growing now?

    Squash on a trellis?

As long as your trellis and supports are sturdy enough, it's surprising what you can grow. I've grown butternut squash, spaghetti squash, icebox watermelons (10-25lb), and sugar pie pumpkins (10-15lb)

    Thought I'd pass this along...

The cost for the LED panels is unrelated though. I didn't care about the cost of that for my seed starting area. I am not growing full sized plants with them. When I mentioned the cost, I was referring to your 400w/1 plant setup over 3 months. i would never consider trying to grow a 5ft pepper...

    Thought I'd pass this along...

Yup, i don't mind spending money on hardware. My situation is unique because I live in Las Vegas. Even during mid Winter, running T5 fixture makes my house feel like an oven as I found out in my previous T5 grow log here. LEDs have worked much better than any other type of light for me, and i've...

    Thought I'd pass this along...

These panels are good for seed starting, but not growing full sized plants. For growing a single full sized pepper plant, i'd never use a 400 watt MH/HPS setup. That's just way too expensive. It would cost about $70 in electricity over 90 days for 400 watts. The plant would have to produce...

    hydroponic Hydroponics...please work!!

Yup, cover the cube with the clay so that light can't get to it anymore, because algae needs light to grow. Keep the air stone running all the time. That way your nutrient solution always has plenty of oxygen for the roots. It will result in faster growth. As for the water level, it doesn't...

    hydroponic Hydroponics...please work!!

Next time you put a plant in there, completely cover the cube with rock wool so that only the stem is sticking out of the clay. You wont want the light to be able to hit the rockwool. If you have to pull off a couple leaves or small branches from the very bottom of the plant to accomplish that...

    hydroponic Hydroponics...please work!!

Looks great but i highly suggest that you cover the top of your rockwool with hydroton or something else. Especially since you're top feeding. You'll end up getting mold and/or algae growing all over that cube pretty soon.

Funny, i just randomly pop in this thread and see my name mentioned :P This is a pretty good deal though. It ends up being $100 each for all 3 panels. I paid around $116 each on amazon for the 8 that I have. I just use them for starting my hundreds of seedlings for my garden each year though. I...

Can anyone ID what's happening to my plants?

Just wanted to pop in and say that I live in Las Vegas where it's regularly 105-110 in my back yard during the summer, and i've never seen any sort of burns from the sun on my leaves. My peppers grow in direct sun with no shade at all. I use compost tea as a soil drench as well as a foliar spray...

Peppers ripening while still too small

The plants are around 2ft tall, but it was the first few pods though. Maybe the next ones will be larger. I just don't remember that happening last year though. I live in las vegas so the weather has been in the high 90s and low 100s.

Peppers ripening while still too small

I have a few bells and poblanos that are all ripening while still really small. A few bells on one of my plants were only about 2" wide when they started to turn color, and the poblanos were only about 3" long before they began to turn red. Anyone know what might cause this? They're in deep...

organic My Organic Back Yard Raised Bed Garden In Las Vegas - Four 4x8 Raised Beds

It might help to reduce wind slightly for the plants that are against the wall, but the wind can still get very strong in my yard. The raised beds don't have a bottom to them. The ground in my back yard is extremely hard clay. I tried to dig into it with a pick axe once, and it literally made...
