Young Plant in a Big Pot - Bad Idea?

I agree with Geeme, it depends on the climate and space available.    I disagree with citrus or bay tree needing small pots, they often do better in huge pots or in the soil.  I have grown cuttings side by side and find the more root space I give them the better they perform.  I assume the...

I think I mentioned that I am happy to pay, I forgot to mention that I also have some tomatoes and other vegetable seeds that maybe someone wants to trade.

    wanted Wanted: Interesting tomatoes

Hi Smokin' Hot,   I would buy online but I prefer to support/encourage home seed savers.  If someone has bought some of these they will likely have extra seeds as a pack of 20 seeds is not often all planted, I could buy extras off them which saves both of us some money.  Also, few places will...

    wanted Wanted: Interesting tomatoes

I am after some interesting tomatoes to do some breeding work with.  I am willing to pay.   I am looking for:      A yellow micro dwarf (such as Micro Gemma) or any colour micro dwarf other than red    Variegated leaf such as or  http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/variegated-tomato-seeds    'Stick'...

    potato fruit

Some varieties produce fruit and true seed more than others.  Some modern varieties have completely lost the ability.  You should save and plant seed from them, the results are very diverse.

    3 Tomatoe's 1 flower?

To me it looks like fasciation, it can be caused by damage or it can be genetic.  Some varieties are always fasciated, 'reisetomate' is an example of this.  In most varieties though fasciation in flowers just pop up from time to time and is usually due to minor damage.    Let us know if all the...

    Alien Tomato :)

It is difficult to tell from a picture, but most of those strawberry pictures look a bit more more like phyllody than vivipary.  I have had strawberries exhibit phyllody before.  They are still edible, but not overly nice.

    Living mulch in pots

How are you planning on keeping it short?  Lucerne grows rather tall.  Will regular trimming work?  I have used living mulch in garden beds before but not pots so I am keen to hear how it works out.

    Root grafting / plant fusing

I have grafted tomatoes and chilli scions onto potato rootstock several times in an attempt to get two crops from one space.  I have done a few small trials to compare the yield of grafted plants compared to non grafted plants.  It is an interesting novelty, but the yield is always lower than...

    Laksa leaf

We grow them too.  They turn a good chicken soup into an amazing chicken soup.  You need to protect them from frost, and they can't ever have too much water.  Other than that they are simple to grow.

    pineberry....

I grow pineberry.  They are ok.  I prefer regular strawberries.   You can not grow them from seed, so please buy plants.  There are heaps of fake pineberry seeds on ebay, please avoid them.   I am not sure if they are different in Australia but the ones we have only have female flowers, so you...

    Alien Tomato :)

I can't see the first few pictures for some reason, the fruit in the last set of pictures it looks like the seed is germinating inside ripe fruit.  This is probably not a trait you want to keep and breed into your stock.  When seeds germinate in ripe fruit it is known as 'vivipary', it is not...

    Strawberries

I have grown them under artificial lights once before and they did ok.  The lack of true leaves is worrying, I am not sure what else to suggest.   I should also warn you that if you ever buy strawberry seed to be very careful and only buy from people that you trust.  There are HEAPS of people...

    Strawberries

I have grown plenty of strawberries from seed, it is not overly difficult.  Yours look leggy, I don't think they are getting enough light.  Give them more light (but don't cook them) and they should push out some true leaves.
