    Hi. I'm Bob

Hi Bob, welcome. I'm going to get my seeds started soon (it's winter in South Africa at the moment, waiting for warmer weather) and I was wondering where I was going to put all the plants I plan on growing. I must admit, I never considered displaying them on the lawn, but now you've expanded my...

    Bierz's 2015 Chicago Rooftop Grow

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing more, this is making me itch to get back to my garden. Fourteen plants, I can only admire your restraint!

Can someone identify these eggs on my plants

Definitely not ladybug eggs.   Unless someone is able to positively identify them as belonging to a beneficial insect, I would squish them.   I don't know enough about the critters in California to wager a guess as to what it belongs to, but ladybug eggs are long in shape, usually yellow and...

    Sweet PeriPeri sauce

Okay, I got the recipe! Remember, this is not for Sweet PeriPeri sauce, as per the topic, but for a hot Durban style curry. Durban-style means influenced by Indian cuisine, with its own South African twists. I share the recipe here, once I make it myself I'll post it again in a new topic, with...

stupid question, but is this starting of fruit?

Personally, I would be hesitant to change water now at this stage, since your plants appear to be doing fine. Changing to straight well water just might affect them negatively. If you feel confident experimenting, then you could definitely try it. You could also send a sample of the well water...

stupid question, but is this starting of fruit?

Congratulations on your first pods! Ripening times vary according to the variety, with milder varieties usually ripening faster than superhots. You're looking at about a month under ideal weather conditions. You can Google your specific variety to find out exactly how long it usually takes.  ...

    greenhouse Green House Growing

Hello, congratulations on getting a greenhouse! I'll give you some tips I picked up from growing in my greenhouse, excuse me if I repeat the advice already given.   1. Top watering is not an issue, fan is a great idea. Just be careful not to overwater. Err on the side of too dry rather than too...

    Sweet PeriPeri sauce

Yes, he's going to email me the recipe once he gets back home. They're leaving on Monday (5 May), so I'll send him a reminder once they get back and then share the recipe here. He told me the ingredients (very easy), but couldn't remember quantities. Can't wait to try it!

Welcome Mark. I hope everything goes well with your grow so you can provide your wife with those hot peppers. Keep us updated with photos, it's always nice to see how people fare in different parts of the world and others can learn from your success.

    South African Pepper Addicts

Ha, did YOU bring the rain then? We've been experiencing heat waves like nobody's business and then bam, rain rain rain.   Oddly enough, I've been waiting on some pods to ripen and then didn't go out to check on them for two days due to the rain. When I checked today, fully red and orange pods...

Should I give up on these plants

The image link isn't working (when using imgur you can copy and paste the BBCode directly into your post to embed the image), but your plants don't sound as though they're doing anything unusual. They're young still, it could be that they're just not growing on top. Perhaps they're concentrating...

    Remove flowers?

I agree with SciurusDoomus, leave the flowers. If the plant can't handle it, they'll fall off by themselves. If they make it, you score some pods sooner. But I'm actually posting to compliment you on your plants. Looking good!

    Remove flowers?

Peppers are self-pollinating, so you don't have to use a brush (although you absolutely can if you want to). You can also shake your plants every day to encourage the pollen to fall. The flowers are ready for pollination when they are fully open.   You don't have to pollinate between two plants...
