    Companion Plants?

I am going to be doing some more reading on this, but how does one utilize these plants?  Ie, do you just plant near your peppers, really close and in between, on the perimeter?  I have a 20'x40' garden and been having slug issues.  Its been super rainy, and I live in a very heavily wooded area...

    Northeastern rain...

Today is a very welcome day for me.  The sun is shining.  First time growing in ground, and so far between the constant rain and slugs/snails I am very surprised I have plants left at all.  Plus, it dips into the forty's almost every night still.  All things considering, out of 50 plants, I only...

Everything is looking great!!  What are the dimensions of the pots you are using?  I was going to use the good old solo cups, but I like square things better.  Thanks!

Take all my money, just don't hurt my peppers. Smallbutfierce's attempt to make hot peppers grow in

A little update:  So far, most of everything has popped.  Having issues with red fatalii and red bhut not germinating.  Which surprises me, since some more typically finicky types are were ready in a week.  But, all else considering, moving along quite well.  I can't wait till they have leaves...

    Let's talk paprika

Looking for dried paprika peppers I discovered they were hard to come by. At least none of my food vendors could get any(story of my life up here) and Google only gave me foreign trade sites. So, I guess I'll be adding them to the grow list. What varieties have you guys grown, and what's good...

Take all my money, just don't hurt my peppers. Smallbutfierce's attempt to make hot peppers grow in

@ stettoman, yes, I have checked out the throwdowns.  Actually made a il diavolo deep dish for this past one, but I was entertaining company and didn't have the time to put together a good pic/recipe walkthrough.  And I thought one dish wasn't really good enough to enter.  Plus, I was rooting...

Take all my money, just don't hurt my peppers. Smallbutfierce's attempt to make hot peppers grow in

Hello everyone!!  There is like 30" of snow falling outside and we are only half way though this fabulous blizzard, so I figured I'd get my seeds started.  A little background:  I'm a chef at a internationally inspired bistro in Bangor, ME.  Meaning I do French, Italian, Asian, South American...

seeds Starting seedlings in cold weather areas

OK, one more general question. For germinating at a larger scale, so you use the wet paper towel method, or start them in a smaller seed tray and transfer to pots? I was thinking of using flat Tupperware with paper towels, and using my lights as a heat source. Seems easier than bags, and I...

seeds Starting seedlings in cold weather areas

I too started plants in November with the hopes of growing pods indoors.  I ran into issues with pots size, some nutrient confusion, and time issues.  All those plants were about 2' tall and flowered vigorously, but they all dropped.  Due to timing, I retired most of them to house plants, where...

seeds Starting seedlings in cold weather areas

Hey everyone!  My grow list is finalized and seeds are all here, now just need help to decide on a few things.  According to our county horticulturist(a friend knows this person) our frost free date is May 20th.   Question 1).  The slip of paper that came with the seeds(refining fire) stated...

    Growing peppers for flavor

If this could be moved to "growing hot peppers" forum, that would probably be better.  Meant to post it there.  Thanks!

    Growing peppers for flavor

I have read all the threads on "best tasting super hot", etc.  Seems there are too many opinions on the matter, and my own tasting seems to mirror many of the common favorites.  So I won't go there.  What I am more interested in is:  In the culinary world, flavor should be the most important...
