what are the results of your crystaldiskmark and superpi? I looked it up again and it seems hyperpi will let you run multiple instances of superpi so you can run one on each core.

Com ing to get her nice ly. Just the tip (okay, two tips): Read up on the mobo and see if the RAM should be seated in DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 for dual channel. Many times they alternate, so 1 & 3 are channel A and 2 & 4 are channel B, for example. Dont run all the PSU's rails unless you need them.

thanks for the suggestion. i have a spare 1U server and was considering I pull it out of the rack. this may be a good replacement to the buffalo linkstation nas, and an improvement over a FreeNAS setup.
