seeds Looking for Good Tabasco Seeds

Is anyone growing an exceptionally nice tabasco plant this year? Have you walked around Avery Island recently and happened across any peppers laying around (wishful thinking...)?    If so, let me know, I'd love to trade some seeds with you!   Years ago I managed to grow a monster tabasco pant...

    Chili leaves dropping

It can be a tricky process hardening off peppers. This year 2 of my most healthy looking plants dropped ALL of their leaves (except for two) when I transplanted them, even after a week of hardening off. Most people would have probably left them for dead at that point, but I didn't give up on...

    ATL 2016 Grow, 12 Varieties

Yeah I know what you mean, at some point they have to go in the ground. I think I'll just keep potting them up in small increments until I have somewhere to put them.   Which might not be long based on how my Cherry Hot pepper looked this morning...     Looks like I was a bit hasty hardening...

    Volunteers this year

Indeed, repeated freezes and thaws don't seem to affect the seeds. One of my coworkers left some ghost peppers in the back of the freezer in the mini fridge at work, which has a lot of difficulty keeping things frozen. I saved the seeds from one of the half-frozen peppers that had been through...

    Newbie, papery yellow leaves.

In the US you can find epsom salt in the pharmacy section of most grocery stores, it's more commonly used in medicine than in gardening.

    ATL 2016 Grow, 12 Varieties

Sunday was the day!   I found some free mulch on the side of the road...     Then I prepped the garden and applied some rooting hormone to the tall guys who lost their lower leaves. I've never planted peppers this deep before, let alone use the rooting powder, so we'll see how this experiment...

    hi pals! regarding hardening off..

Also keep in mind that cloudy days are great for hardening off peppers. After a couple of days in the shade they can usually handle a cloudy day just fine. Then after a couple of cloudy days they can handle sun pretty well in my experience. If all you have are sunny days just take your time and...

    ATL 2016 Grow, 12 Varieties

Thanks santis!   Over all, still looking good. The Jalapeño and Fatalii still haven't sprouted, so I'm giving up on them, it's too late and I have plenty as it is. Maybe next year. All the plants that had wrinkled leaves or edema (all started in that cursed Miracle Grow mix) seem to have...

    Root-bound question

No matter what state they're in when you transplant them, they are going to grow like crazy once they get outside and you're going to wonder why you worried so much :)   It's all about timing, same thing happened to me this year and I got a bunch flowering in cups and even setting fruit before I...

indoor Should You Heat-Treat Mulch if Used Indoors?

First of all, if you use MG, you should DEFINITELY pasteurize it in the oven before using indoors, or else you WILL get fungus gnats. I made the mistake of not doing that for years, and just now won the battle against the fungus gnats in my house. Believe me, IT SUCKED! Never again with MG.  ...

    ATL 2016 Grow, 12 Varieties

Thanks Jason, I'm Robert, I'm down on the east side of the city. What a generous offer to offload some plants to us, but like you, even with the modest number of plants we're starting there are way more than we can fit in our tiny urban garden! Funny we all have the same problem, right? I'm...

    ATL 2016 Grow, 12 Varieties

I'd forgotten how fast pepper plants grow once they get going! We had to leave them under the care of a friend for a week while on vacation, and even though they probably got over watered a bit while we were away, they're doing great and just itching to get outside. Things are dense and there's...

    Not ready!

Ouch. That's a lot of light to be giving them fresh outdoors. I start with waaaaaaaaaaaay less, and work up very slowly. I've killed or stunted too many plants with sunburn to be hasty anymore. Hope they recover for you.

    New growth curled up

That's good to know. About half of my plants I started in some left over mix of various MG flavors, then potted up into my FFOF mix. The ones that are doing the worst were started in the MG mix, while the plants that have been in FFOF all along are very happy. Who the hell knows what was in...

    New growth curled up

I'm having a similar issue using OF. Although I added a bit of composted cow manure to mine as well, might just be too rich for the guys. I'm not worried and expect it to clear up once they go outside in a week or two.

More Fruits per plant for Super Hots?

Just a thought, but could it be a lack of pollinating insects? Or that the ones in your area are not attracted to your super hot plants? I know peppers are self-pollinating, but they might still need a little help.   There was a guy in my office who had a pepper plant in his window that was just...

    seeds Tricot seedling.

They seem more likely when the plant is a cross, or varieties where there is still some amount of genetic pollution so to speak. Half of my habanero-cross seeds sprouted with tricots.
