health Is something wrong with my T. Scorp?

The stem on one of my T. Scorps and a bell pepper plant have this long brown stripe running down it. I did a quick google search but couldn't find anything.

Planting hot peppers close together and with non-hot peppers?

So I have some extra pepper plants that are not going to go into containers and into my raised beds. I thought I read somewhere (maybe even here) that it wasn't a good idea to plant different peppers to close to each other. Going into the ground are a Bhut Jolokia, Trinidad Scorpion, and 3...

    5 gallon bucket question....

I see a lot of talk about using 5 gallon buckets for planting peppers in. What kind are you using? Are they the Home Depot ones that are like $2.69 and orange? Is there any worry from the toxins from the paint on the bucket getting mixed in with the potting mix?

    Ryan's newb garden thread.....

Thanks POTAWIE. Maybe I will avoid the newspaper then. TPP, it is really sunny back there. That pic was taken at 8:30 in the morning and will stay that sunny until 7:45p.m. Ok so one more question. What sort of things should I be adding to my garden throughout the season. I plan on getting...

    Ryan's newb garden thread.....

Ya I thought it sounded kinda strange, but I read it in the sticky thread. Since we have some of it here, I figured why not.

    Ryan's newb garden thread.....

Hmmmmmm ic. Then I will leave the beds alone and only amend the pots then. I just read the sticky on soil. How does a mix of soil, peat, limestone, and newspaper sound for the containers? And like I promised, here are a coulple of pics (like I said before, not to much to see here.....yet)...

    Ryan's newb garden thread.....

Can I ask how you would amend it? Can I get peat from a landscaper (that's who I was getting the top soil from)? Or from Home Depot or Lowes? Edit: Would I be better off going with peat in the entire raised bed? (Sorry for all the questions) And here I thought I was ready to order the top...

    Ryan's newb garden thread.....

Well, bear with me because this thread is going to be a learning experience. I am sure I will have lots of questions along the way. I decided to go with 2 raised beds because the soil where the garden is going doesn't really drain very well. The beds are 4' x 12'. I also ordered some top soil...

    Flavor Profiles

Thanks for the replies guys. I was talking about the Datil Sweet peppers. So the only way to really get an idea of what the pepper tastes like (except to watch Neil's video) is to just start tasting the peppers myself? I better get crackin'.....

    Flavor Profiles

Ok guys, so I have done some research, and i'm kind of confused. Is there a thread anywhere that describes the flavor profiles for all of the different hot peppers? Also, I am about to place an order at chileplants.com for two Bhut Jolokia, 2 Trinidad Scorpion, 1 Datil Sweet, and some tomatoe...

beer What are you brewing this weekend?

This will be the first time I use it. I love Dead Guy though (same yeast) so I really have high hopes for it. I think the plan is to wash it so I can get a lot of use out of it.

    Hi from Michigan

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I poked around the site a bit yesterday and feel like I have learned quite a bit already. Who knew there were so many different types of hot peppers. I think I am almost ready to take the plunge. I just have to decide if I am going to plant in the ground...

    Hi from Michigan

Hey! My name is Ryan. I'm 25 years old and thinking about starting a garden for the first time this year. Since I have been eating a lot of hot food lately, I thought about growing some hot peppers as well. I really like Habaneros and was thinking that I should try to grow those, but a...
