Unknown Peruvian jungle pepper found in the amazon - Aji Maqusari

Little further on and chillies have set. I got bored hand pollinating so I have been moving it outside to let the bees and hover flies do it for me and then back in when its too hot and it starts wilting, but I did wait till at least 12 of the pods set before moving so I am sure the first few...

Nice looking pod there! Another update. The Aji Maqusari has grown like crazy in the conservatory now almost 3ft tall (34) from the base of the stem, and is in a flowering frenzy right now but im struggling to hand pollinate them as they are inside the house and the flowers are tiny, with not...

Although my fog (ultrasonic) transducer ceased up so Switched to standard hydroponics as a DWC system with bubbler. In the orange container is the Aji Maqusari, and the 10L mop bucket...

and another photo (2nd from the right) I really wish I was there when they had this selection!!! The pink variety looks like Aji Ayucllo from the book. Im guessing probably related to the Brazilian Cheiro Roxa (Iquitos is very close to the Brazilian border). I want to go back there now...

Very nice Mochero, how is the taste? I probably should have kept some seeds after all! Back on topic, I found another picture of the Maqusari chillies st the same Market online by searching Belen Market chillies into google. It is a stock photo owned by Alamy The red ones in front look like...

Fantastic plants! Your Arnaucho is a real stunner. I hope mine looks that good. Yes I just got round to reading that they are similar, but your Arnaucho does look just like the Aji limo from Seaspring Seeds. I cant wait to see how mine come out. Im hoping that the aeroponics setup will speed the...

Really interesting pdf! Thanks for that. Very interesting to see the main varieties they use, although ive Heard they have more than 200 varieties, most of which are probably regional and uncommon. The Aji Limo photo above does indeed look a lot like the Arnaucho variety in the book but a bit...

Looks nothing like the Aji Limos ive seen in Peru or grown here in UK. Aji Limo ripens red with some purpling in the immature stage, and a lot bigger and pointed. These are small, yellow and knobbly oval shaped with different flavour. Both Chinense though. Aji Maqusari Aji Limo

Im planning to send some seeds to Joy from sea spring seeds, here is the UK. Shes a great chilli expert and my favourite Chilli company here. Additionally, is there a part of the forum that has a seeds exchange? I have a few other rare Peruvian, Ecuadorian and Panamanian chilli seeds from my...

Aslo, as a side note, (and Ive found this with most of my chillies grown in the past) the plants grown under natural daylight light have a flat and even leaf, whereas the plants ive grown under LED tend to bulge in between the veins. Any thoughts on why this is, or if it is problematic? Both...

My Maqusaris from way back in 2016 died when I went on holiday and they dried out. Many more years later... and Im trying again! I planted 4 seeds and 3 popped! Not bad for seed thats 4 years old. Interestingly, the seedlihgs dont have the purple stems they had back in 2016. As its late in the...

Thanks Tinnie, that's very interesting. I imagine they had some local name which may not be universally known, and that it could be known by a different name. I will keep this updated and can give some seeds away at the end of the season for those interested.

It's been 18 months, I lost the seeds for a while, but now they are sown and germinated for this year's grow season. I want to see how these grow and how they will taste grown in the UK.   10 days after sowing and 3 out of 3 seeds have germinated and are doing well.   https://flic.kr/p/Eqkk19  ...

I use similar analytical equipment in my PhD research, actually we have our own gas chromatograph in our lab. I'm thinking of buying some analytical standards for calibration and testing my own chillies in this way when it's not in use. I'm growing (amongst other things) the Carolina Reaper so...

I've just been to a town in the Peruvian amazon jungle and found a curious looking yellow hot pepper that I had never seen before. They are yellow wrinkled unpredictable shaped about 1/2" to 3/4" long and about 1/3" -1/2" wide. I found in the Belén market, where the lady wrote down the name as...

    ChiliNoobs first glog [2014]

I've heard (and found) that often when a plant is stuck in a pot too small for it (I.e. crowded roots), it may set fruit early as a survival method to pass on the genetic information to the next generation. I had a 7" scotch bonnet in s 200ml cup set fruit and an aji amerillo that I completely...

Yeah you hve to be really careful when they're tiny like that.   Hope the resoiling helps. I did this with my seedlings that were growing in coir, but the high salt level was killing them, they looked terrible. A week after resoiling the new leaves were deep healthy green, although the existing...
