Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

Not much to report, all are growing well. The white hab is getting huge. I gave away a few plants to family and friends as I was running out of room.

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

I'm finally organised enough to post some photos from my camera instead of from my phone. Here is the White Hab a few weeks ago v's yesterday.   I picked up one of the plants that is still in a peat pot but hasn't been transplanted yet. I was surprised at the number of roots that had come...

Box from The Ghost Pepper Store

He used a 5DII with a 35mm lens  with settings 1/80 f/13 iso 320   If you want to learn how to take photo's like those on the cheap, look up DIY Product Photography. Should have things around the house which will allow you to give it a go without spending too much.

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

Seems there are quite a few from Melbourne and surrounds on here :) What varieties are you growing?   I haven't found them too bad. Not sure they are worth getting again. I will try some seed trays and see how i feel about them. One definite advantage for the Peat Pods is the transplanting is...

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

I'm nearby, over in Lara (near Geelong!)   I was going to say...regarding giving up on seeds....some of mine took just over 90 days to germinate, so never say never!!! Best of luck with your grow :) Lol, mine are still sorting outside, might bring them in and keep an eye on them. I have...

Captain's glog, star date 9/25/13: FIRST HARVEST PICS!! My first attempt at a hot sauce as well!

My first time growing too, mine are a lot smaller than yours. Almost spring here so plenty of growing time to come.   You can save seeds from this years crop and grow them next year. Just make sure you isolate the flowers of the chilli you want to save else it may cross pollinate. Could find...

Captain's glog, star date 9/25/13: FIRST HARVEST PICS!! My first attempt at a hot sauce as well!

Yea, waiting for them to ripen has by far been the most impatient part of the whole process lol! I thought waiting for them to germinate was bad enough. Lol

Your plants are looking great. Shouldn't be long until you are overflowing with peppers :)

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

Thanks, they have grown quite a bit since the last photo so i went home last night and transplanted them all into their own cups. 12 hours later when i left for work and they are all looking strong and healthy, none have drooped over or have wilted leaves.   I gave them a good water the night...

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

Here is a photo of all of the plants, most of them are coming along nicely now that they have the light. Only a couple that haven't started to develop their first true leaves.

Thanks for the show of support. I'll let it live then. It actually has it's second leaves coming through.   Lights are on and pretty close to the propogator. I have rotated the plants as the ones closest to the light have been growing the most, unsurprisingly.   Will post updated photos soon...

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

Not sure if it's the lights or not but after 2 days I had a second set of leaves appearing on a White Habanero seedling. Took this on Saturday, it's a bit bigger now :)

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

The lights seem to be helping (only a few days but i'm gonna contribute this to the lights) My first set of second leaves,    Is it normal for a seed to germinate with 3 initial leaves? Is it some kind of mutant plant that i should rip out of the ground or is it a common occurance?

    Too crazy of an idea?

Who's your target audience? If it's people that eat hot chilies I'd guess that they would generally be open to trying new sauces. How is Durian going to smell once it's mixed with the other ingredients, I'm tipping your sauce, whilst delicious, may be a bit on the nose ;)

Tatts' first time growing anything from seed

I received some advice in the Australian growing thread so tonight I moved the plants underneath a lamp to encourage some growth.

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

I did some searching online and found that energy saving globes are fluorescent. TIL. So i grabbed an spare lamp and put it above the plants as such:   Hopefully it will help them along a bit.   Thanks again for your help guys. Hopefully i will have more to add to this thread as they grow up...

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

Thanks guys. Sorry about the links below, not my images so don't want to post them.   I have the plants in a propogator so don't think i'll need a huge setup.   Would something like this one from Bunnings work? Are there better alternatives, perhaps a lamp like on the top shelf with a bright...

Is sitting next to a large window with only a few hours direct light enough?

overwintering Winter-Summer in OZ "Comparison" / Aussie Blabberers

I'm growing a few plants but can't seem to get them past the first set of leaves. Guess this is due to lack of light. I am germinating them in a heated propagator and then keeping them in there. They germinate fine and the first leaves come up but that's all that happens. Does it normally take a...

'Tickle' my pepper plant flowers with a Q-Tip (pollination aid) ?

Don't come to Australia then  :stop:    Hard to tell if the pool is fully enclosed but if you have a breeze near the plants that could pollinate them too.
