habanero large leaves randomly

I have three habs about five months old. Just got a bounty of fruit off them. Picked about ten orange peppers between the three a day for almost a month. Then all of a sudden two of them had a growth spurt with leaves four times the reg size. No buds. The peppers are all picked. Is this it for the season? Im in Houston and it wont get cool till middle november. Again Im new and dont know what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Pepper plants are perennials, and will continue to thrive in ideal conditions. Your plants will produce more flowers and fruit when the weather cools. In the mean time enjoy the plants new luscious growth. For more info on your Zone and "The Texas Grow"

No they should keep producing right up till the weather gets too cold at night, though if daytime temperatures there are really high they may wait till it's a bit cooler to make, or not abort, new buds/blooms/peppers. If night temperatures are too high the booms won't fertilize.

With the habs I've grown, at 5 months old they had only produced roughly 1/3rd the pods they ended up producing for the season, perhaps even less than that if you count the pods they have a hard time finishing to a ripe state at the end of the season because they ripen much slower when it gets cooler in fall.

The growth spurt is a positive sign, every time the stem forks off you have locations for twice as many nodes to start new blooms, then more growth and twice as many again.
