seeds Putting seeds directly into the soil

Bad luck?
 
Over 5000 feet in the high desert with a short brutal growing season, single digit humidity, and high winds.
 
That I can get anything besides sage brush and cactus to grow and fruit is very good luck indeed.
 
I'd imagine in conditions like that, doing them in trays would be ideal prior to transplanting them into the ground.
 
Well, so far so good (I hope). The storm we had passed about an hour ago, so I went out and checked on the seeds I put into the soil the other day. There were a few that were right on the surface, so I made sure to cover them back up in dirt. but those were in the single digits, and over all I'm happy thus far :)
 
Now I'm just hoping they germinate
