review Official Review: Texas Creek BBQ Sauce Hot

Product Name: Texas Creek BBQ Sauce Hot

Style: Mustard-based sweet and spicy

Manufacturer: Texas Creek Products

Country of Origin: USA

Website: http://texascreekproducts.com/index.html

Ingredients: Mustard, Cider Vinegar, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Spices, Butter, Chipotle Powder, Liquid Smoke, Bhut Jolokia Powder, Wheat-free Tamari.

Label/Packaging: This seems as though it is a prototype label. If the product is released and there is a label I will edit it in here. One note though, I love the one comment on the label, Naturally Terrific!

Appearance/Aroma: My first thought on appearance is that it is dark! I see lots of little specs of spices as well. Good looking sauce. The consistency is good. Thick yet pourable. I love the smell. It is sweet, smoky, and vinegary. Can't smell the peppers, but I can't wait to taste this sauce.

Body of Review:
Knowing salsalady from these forums, and hearing many people rave about this sauce, I was excited to try it. I don't believe this is a commercial sauce as of yet so I can't comment much about artwork, but believe me if you get a chance to try this; it doesn't need artwork. This sauce speaks for itself. The taste has so many components. I get sweet from the brown sugar and tamari, then the liquid smoke. The vinegar makes itself known but not in a bad way, more of a tang. Finally, the heat is there from the chipotle and bhut powders. It is not blow my hair back hot, but nice and warm. It will definitely be plenty hot for a non chilehead. There are a million ways to use this sauce and I will get to them later, but it is a true go to condiment if you want smoked BBQ flavor when you don't have time to BBQ.
Heat Level: 4

Applications: Any application you would use a good bbq sauce for. Ribs, chicken, pork shoulder, etc.

Appearance Score: 5
Aroma Score: 5
Taste Score: 4.5
Mouthfeel Score: 3
Heat Accuracy Score: 4.5

Overall Score: 5

Notes: While the heat is only a four for me, as I said it is plenty hot for a BBQ sauce. I don't find it HOT, but since it is a BBQ sauce and not a hot sauce, I think the heat is appropriate. The only fault I can find with this sauce is the mouthfeel. All the powders in there combine to make the sauce a bit gritty. That being said, I think when you actually use it on food, that goes away. Overall, nice job salsalady. BTW, I need another bottle!

I don't see liquid smoke listed. Were you tasting the chipotle? I hope so, I prefer the smoky chipotle flavor over over liquid smoke. No need for smoke in the sauce when Q'in.

Yep it's there. I somehow missed it the first time. There is chipotle too so it's not too overpowering like liquid smoke can sometimes be.

Texas Creek BBQ Hot is bone sucking finger licking spoonful good. It is the best on chicken and other white meats but I'm sure would be just as good on a BBQ sandwich. It's a big bottle but didn't last very long around here, ate it by the spoonful this stuff has all the right flavors and just enough heat to make it chilehead worthy. Stamp of approval. :onfire:

Great Review JayT -
I need to get a bottle of this to try out on my pack.
I love vinegar sauces and that color would look awesome on a some spares and butts - Congrats SalsaLady

Thanks for editing it in JayT. Liquid smoke sauces have their place, just not on the smoker, so based on the raves here, I would give it a go on things like chicken wings, and as a dipping sauce.

Sounds good SL. When will it be in your store?

You guys know you can rate the sauces too, right? The flames at the top are for people that have tried it.

I have been raving about it for almost a year. In fact, I sliced up a couple of huge hot dogs yesterday, covered it in SL's sauce, and microwaved it. Excellent way to make a quick snack in 2 minutes out of a relatively tasteless item.

Thank you for the great review JayT and comments from others!

The BBQ sauce recipe has been approved by the Process Authority, I'm waiting on the "official" pH test results before posting it on the website. Already contacted the lab to hurry them along. They've had the products for a while~

It is available via private sale right now.

The Chipotle variety Paulky mentioned is the same as what JayT reviewed, just different labels. It will be available in the HOT variety that most here would enjoy and a MEDIUM variety, for the rest of the masses. :)

Thanks again, glad y'all like it!

I just noticed it's a mustard-based sauce, no tomato product at all. No wonder PRF likes it. SC style!

Has anyone tried this on grilled dogs? JayT?

But of course I did! When Wheebz first gave it to me I put it on brats. SL, when you do actually have a label for this, email a pic to me and I will edit it into the review.

Will Do, JayT! Artwork is ready to go, just waiting on the AHJ.
