My humble Grow Log 2011

Well guys, I've been lurking for a while, getting awesome info from all of you. Thank you all for being awesome. Anyway last year I talked about growing peppers and was given some Bhut Jolokia seeds by a friend in MI. I'm starting pretty conservatively for my first time. I planted 4 Bhut seeds and only one made it to a plant, my jalapenos did great, I also have a couple nice cayennes with 1 that looks like its going to pop out of the soil any day. I also am growing a few Anaheims. I still have some Bhut seeds in the fridge and I ended up buying some Butch T seeds and am awaiting their arrival. I think I'm going to go ahead and start germinating and try to over winter them.

I've learned a lot so far and am sure this is something that will continue to take more of my time each year.

Cool you will enjoy watching them grow. Just keep an eye of for little critters that like to munch down on your pride and joy

Yeah, same here, I wasn't real confident in my abilities. I'm not really sure where to put them all now, I'll pot my Bhut and at least 1 cayenne and jalapeno, I got one of those upside down hanging things that I might use for the rest of them, if it doesn't work no real harm done.

be sure you got good drainage in them
cups the peppers do not like to wallow in the mud
it ain't a bad idea to fill them cups up to the top
so you can get the lights closer still to the plant tops
the chilis will grow betterer closerer to them light bulb things
i have used them before and if you get the plant's tip at just where
it grows to touch the bulb in one day they grow bestest.
if it burns the edges a little just move the light up like ¼ inch further farther

Alright, I'll throw some more soil in them, do I just cover the stalk, or do I have to pull it out and fill it from the bottom?

I found out after reading posts today that I may have been over watering them just a bit. I have good drainage, but I'll start toning down the watering frequency. I had heard keeping the light about 4" is a good distance, but I will try getting them closer.

Just cover the stalk up to the seed leaves(the first leaves). You don't want to disturb the roots. Hope this helps.

Here is my line of peppers, I had to pot them, my roommate wouldn't let me tear up the yard to put a garden in. I've got 2 Jalapenos, 1 Bhut Jolokia, 2 Cayenne, and 3 Habanero plants.

Yeah, you are right, I just went out and checked. I was going off of memory and could have sworn I took a pic of my jalapeno plant and not the cayenne. I thought it looked rather cayenne like. Meh, that's why I put labels on all my pots.
 
Here are a couple pics from today, my plants seem to be doing ok even after a week of 100 degree weather. I've been giving them water every day.

Quick question: Do Bhut Jolokia's take longer to produce pods? That's my only plant that hasn't flowered or produced a pod yet, it seems really healthy, just no pod.

My first harvest of the season. My plants made it through nearly a month of 90 to 100 degree heat. Still nothing out of my Bhut plant, hopefully something happens soon, it looks strong and has started to flower a bit.
