Seeking advice on Pepper Progression

Hello all, New member here, found the site after watching Beaglestorms videos on the tube of you.

Looking for some advice on where to go next as far as heat. I live in central Massachusetts and as far as I know have a limited resource on getting a variety of peppers. I have found the normal peppers you would find in the supermarket up to Habaneros for heat, which I can handle no problem.

I am looking for some advice on where to go next on heat, I want to build up to the superhots eventually but I do not want to go blind and take a bite out of a Ghost Pepper or Butch T.

Maybe if someone could direct me to a list to get an idea on what peppers to seek out to work my way up to the superhots I would be very appreciative.

Thank you all for the responses in advance.

Dan

You'll be fine but I would try a bhut first then a scorpian. Here is a link to pulpiteer trying one of my bhuts. It was his first super hot. He takes it like a champ.

Just go for it. No holding back. The truth is, you can build up tolerance, but nothing prepares you for a Butch, Douglah, or crazy 7 pots. Just go with 1/4 of the pod or 1/2. My first super was a Yellow TScorp, and the hottest raw chili I had before it was a jalapeno. I had cooked habs but nothing raw. Nothing prepares you for a super. Just go for it and worse comes to worse, in 10 or 15 minutes youll still hate yourself but at least it is almost over.

Cheers.

What peppers can you get? If you can get whatever you want, I would say go Caribbean Red next, then Fatallii, then Naga Morich, then Bhut, then 7-pot and finally Butch T Scorpion. I tell you though, those last three are a giant leap from the fatalii.

The next step up from habs is the supers, just drive slow and cook with them. Gradually increase your dosage over time and you should be able to avoid trouble. I eat them every day, but consider myself a click above wimpy!!

Cool This is exactly what I was looking for. Any of those peppers I would have to buy from here, or grow myself. The Bhut and the Butch T I listed were just examples of what I have read as the top of the food chain so to speak. I plan to grow a variety of peppers next year to start out and see how well it all turns out.

Ill keep an eye out in the marketplace forum here for those listed and see how it goes.

Thank you

One thought on the fataliis, though it might be idiosyncratic:

Did you ever have a favorite candy as a kid, and one day ate so much it tasted really gross - maybe you even threw up?

The fatalii gets a reputation around here for its flavor, and right so I think. To me, though, it's a very strong flavor. One night after a few drinks I cut one up on a sub. The heat was intense but tolerable. The flavor, on the other hand, so overwhelmed me that I got pretty nauseous*. Since then I've been cooking with and taking bites of a bunch of different peppers I grow and cook with, some superhots. I still have a bit of a reaction to fataliis, though, so that's something to consider.

Short-version: fatalii is a good middle-ground for heat, but for me, the overwhelming flavor was more of an issue.

*nauseous: that might have had a little to do with the drinks beforehand too.

I've scoured the forum, love reding about all the different experiances so much so that ill try my hand this comming season to grow a few myself and add my own to the community.

I agreeon with what has been said here. The one I am going for next is the fatalii, I cant explain why, drawn to seems silly, but it seems like a logical next step in my progression.

Now to find some fresh =)
