Good stuff here.

Since my main computer took a dump I'm using my doorstop and started going through the favorites list.Re found this link.

Section on mods is similar to what I did to my smokers.
It's an old link,it looks like the guys archives and site links are history.

Anything this link has on it that you want to go back to I'd copy as a document or whatever.it might be going away too.

Great info. Just picked up 2 WSM's at an amazing price of $44 each!! Will be modding them shortly.

Not bad for a 15 yr old computers favorites list. :)
Puter runs Millinium...
I'm still sorting through the dead links.
Glad these are still working and usefull.

if you are doing Mods. Fiberglass wood stove or Boiler gasket rope is a must for doors etc.
Airtight is the name of the game.

I baught a spool of it ( 100 ft or so) and it cost the same as the 12 ft piece would have.
I needed 50 ft or so for my smokers.Sold the rest easily for my cost on a bbq site.
Could have sold it for the price I paid for the whole spool but I don't play that game.

An appliance store or hardware store charges about $10.00 - $12.00 a foot for oven or stove gasket.

I got this stuff -more or less the same thing.Mine was 1 inch X 110ft x 1/16 inch, flat.Round might be better if the space you need to fill is larger than mine was.

Used Rutland(SP?) 2000 degree gasket cement to seal doors with the gasket/rope.
I think I paid less buying the 100 ft spool per ft.
If I find the link I'll edit this post.
Stuff works great, saves fuel and keeps the smoker at a more even temp.
I put a propane torch to it and it'll glow red.won't burn or melt.
I used the 2000 degree or higher rope.

Use ONLY gasket cement for BBQ etc. Form a gasket, engine sealers etc. isn't safe for food.
Puts off fumes that can mess with you and your food.
You'll be suprised the difference this stuff makes after you install it.
Your smoker or grill will start being easier to control.
I love this stuff.

I had all my seams welded since most smokers and BBQ's are only spot welded these days but I think the gasket cement would work.
Don't use the fireplace cement,it dries hard and isn't flexible.
It won't last long when the metal contracts and expands with heat and cold.
Use the high temp silicone stuff.800-2000 degree stuff it's a buck a tube at the dollarramas/99 cent stores.
Hardware stores sell it for $3.00+ a tube.Same stuff/company...

WSM mean Weber Smoke Masters?
Best thing you can do with them is put on an offset firebox and put a smokestack on the botton side opposite the firebox.
Put in a baffle at the firebox entrance to the smoke chamber-see my pics on the show me your smoker or whatever post.
Put a 1 1/2-2 inch drain hole in the botton-see my pics...

I gave the smokemaster away.too thin metal,a beer can.Didn't like it.
I have/had one someone gave me.

Thanks for the tips. WSM = Weber Smokey Mountain. It's what most comp cooks use now and days. I plan on rigging up a stoker to m 2 units and adding a proq stacker to really increase the amount I can cook at once.

WSM stands for Weber Smokey Mountain and is by far the most widly used competition smoker because of the small size and consitancy when cooking. A stocker is power draft system controlled by temp to ensure your meat cooks at a constant temp for LONG periods of time. There are tens of thousands of articles on how to use them and set them up.
