I am the FNG here and have noticed that many stop in and leave chat frequently.  I suspect they would stay if they could private chat
with others, or have a few other chat rooms selectable to have discussions about pepper topics.  Is there a reason private chat is discouraged,
not allowed ?  Other forums I belong to have private chat and it serves the members nicely.

I don't feel a need for private chat - the Personal Messenger feature works well enough. If I want to talk to a single person or small group on a more specific level, I just PM them my phone number. I am more under the impression that most people leave chat because a) they have some other thing they have to do, b) they've chatted long enough, or c) they have connectivity problems. From time to time people will leave because there are so many people in there it's hard to keep up, or they're not getting their questions answered "fast enough", but if they're persistent, it will happen - no one is intentionally ignored.

LOL. It seems that when someone wants to talk peppers, soil, lights, water molecules, etc., ptivate chat rooms would be handy for the times that Sicman and his hooligan friends are in the chat room whooping it up.
