Mezo`s "super hots" Glog including the 'big' solar dehydrator.

The is thread with the humungous solar dehydrator. :D

G-Day, im Mez or Mezo & im new to this part of Australia having come from Perth (Western Australia) where growing chili peppers is so easy (except the heat).

I live in the border ranges in northern New South Wales (bordering Queensland) and its a mixed bag of temperate & tropical conditions, the summers are very hot, wet & humid, the winters are dry & sunny.

Average daily temps.

averagedailytemp.gif

And average monthly rainfall.

Aussies reading this will already know this, but people in other country's probably paint a picture of Australia as a hot dry/dusty land but this is far from the truth, up north its full blown tropics with a wet season & 100% humidity (yuck). Down south its freezing cold & snow during winter, out west its a dry heat like in the Mediterranean & in the middle of Australia is desert country.

So im now growing for the first time "Super hots" and for a very important reason, whilst working away in Perth i had a double heart attack wich has left me permanently disabled, sadly they are unable to operate on me (bypass/stent) as its to far gone, so having worked all my life (Electrician) im now at the age of 45 claiming a disability pension & i hate not being able to work.

Now i take shovel fulls of dam tablets to keep my heart pumping & id rather not be taking any but right now there no option i have to take them or ill drop dead on the spot. After much reading i found out that cayenne powder has all sort of benefits to your health & well being, especially to your cardio vascular system. I had read that cayenne powder can stop a heart attack in its track & i put this to the test (twice) and yes it does work where the medication (Nitrolingual) had no effect.

So anyone reading this who spots a friend having a heart attack just flick some chili powder in a glass of water as fast as you can & get them to drink in right down, fast. It works within 30 seconds of drinking it & it saved me from two more attacks already.

So there's my life story in a nutshell & some sound advice on how to save a heart attack victims life.
And this ladies & gentlymen is why im growing "Super Hots" to make high heat cayenne powder for cooking to improve my circulation/remove fats & as a "just in case of emergency"

OK on with the first of my "Hots" the Bhut Jolokia, the reason i chose this was simple i just Googled "whats the hottest chili" and up popped the result, however further reading on the interweb i found threads from this forum & names like the Butch T, the Douglah & Brain Strain.

So ive ordered them from pepperlover.com after so many people gave such great reviews, Bhut in the meantime lets look at my Jolokia`s.

Must admit i just love the shape & color of these babies.

More soon,

Welcome to the big leagues!!
I eat supers everyday and haven't been sick in over a year. Beware, they're super additive…you'll be thinking about them all the time!!

Thank you, i feel like a big boy now in the super league.

So yesterday i re-potted my Bhut`s in to some 'big' planters, they plants were so root bound, i used 30lts of potting mix in each pot.
And i spaced them out & built a chicken fence around to keep out the wildlife, chickens mainly but we also have cows, ducks, geese & Tom,,,the peacock who showed just a little bit much interest in what i was doing.

And Tom again trying to look casual as he eyes up the plants.

Aslo have some other unknown chili`s growing, i say unknow as i forgot to make a note of what they were when i brought the plants last year, they look a bit like firecrackers but seem to be a bit big though, any ideas people?

unknown1.jpg

Whatever they are ive had hundreds of this plant, never had so many chili`s of one single small plant, amazing & the thing is still producing chili`s faster than we can consume them, will be saving all the seeds from this plant for sure as its a real nice one to eat.

There are so many on this the branches lay right over with the weight.

More soon,

Mezo.

Great to know about the heart attack "cure", im going to continue smoking and drinking happy in the knowledge that i am immune :hell:
Just kiddin, kinda!

How old are your bhut plants? They look very happy, you has a green thumb for sure!
Are there any other types of chillis that have taken your fancy whilst lookin around on the webz?

Welcome Mark, looks like you have a bit of land there, I hope you end up growing 100's of superhots

I guess the Bhut`s would be ten weeks, as i said on my into post i thought they had failed so i chucked the potting mix back in the bag & forgot about them, wasnt until i saw chili leaves start sprouting everywhere amongst other seedlings (same seed raising bag) i realized some had survived, still had a 50% sucess rate without trying & another popped up this weekend so that makes four seedlings growning and five bigger plants from earlier on (before Christmas).

Have not really gone in to the depths of chilism just yet, may have a go with some of the Hungarian wax varietys seems im half Hungarian myself & they look kinda cool.

Been sat out in the sun de-seeding a stack of pods, a mate gave me what i think are firecrackers by the size & shape so ive just bunged 20 odd seeds in 'cups' & ive also got a stack of them unknowns ill be planting them tomorrow, ill take some pics & post.

Its beer-o-clock here in NSW.

Thanks for the welcome, i had heared it thins the blood also & they say the number one ingrediant if your taking any other supplement is cayenne/chili as its the only thing that gets the blood flowing to all regions of your body.

I am living in a caravan with no electric or TV, no running water or any luxuries like that. I caretake a friends 'hobby farm' its 17 acres & we let the neigbour graze his cows on here as it keeps the grass low & provides manure.

My main job is to look after the chickens, ducks & geese. They need feeding & watering then locking up at night so Mr Fox cant eat them, i live down here on my own most of the week & the owners (friends of mine) come down at the weekends.
Theres just me a puppy dog to keep me company & to keep predators at bay.

Tess, 90% Border Collie with a hint of Kelpie (both her parents are working dogs) this here on day one when we got her.

And Tess last week, she`s growing real quick as we feed her only the best tucker.

Nova is right on!

Man, you are growing chilis to save your life. I'm growing them because I'm just
interested in it - not really a noble purpose. I think you are a stud for taking charge
of your own health and doing what you see will be helpful and healthful. As we say
in the mean streets, you go, boy! We want to read your posts for a long time - and see
more great pod porn as Pic I calls it : )

Yes there is more of a purpose now i guess, but i have been growing them for years back in Perth. I do enjoy cooking & use them all the time but now im focused on the hot ones firstly & then ill be trying out some other varieties, forums like this have only come about in the last few years & i guess im a bit of a forum addict.

I love the way you can pick any topic/interst/hobby and focus it with minded people who share the same intrests,

The sun is rising & my wedding marquee (makeshift greenhouse) is beckoning me, these things are great for growing stuff in & they are cheap new on ebay but come up secondhand all the time, after all they only get used once. My marquee is dual purpose, one side (sunny side, north) is all set up for germination & the cooler side is taken up by motorbikes (which i restore).

Heres six months ago setting it up,

Tentere2.jpg

And filling it with bikes.

Tentere11.jpg

Then when i started to grow vegtables i needed to move things around, like i said i set up the sunny side for germination.

You can see more in my Veggie Garden Page.

Met this American guy Rex riding a friends BMW around this area, i got chatting down the supermarket in Kyogle & he wanted to come back to the property to see my bikes, in his blog there are some pictures of me. The picture with the river running & the drive on the left is our driveway, it follows the creek for about a mile to where we are camped.

Were in the middle of building or locating a de-mountable house & when Rex was here the two halfs (two trucks or B-doubles) were being driven up the narrow lanes with escorts front & rear (pilots).

Mezo.

Right, had a sort out in the 'greenhouse' re-potted some 50 more asparagus plants to give me more room, still got to find 70 more pots for the others, and they really could do with a new home (root bound)

esp1.jpg

And here are 40 neighbor chili`s, i call them that because that's where most will end up (friends & neighbors) my super hots will be mates chili`s, and good mates at that. Im not entirely sure what they are? one looks like a fireckracker & the other is the one i posted above that has stacks of fruit on, so my 'unknown as yet' in the blue pots & my potential firecracker in the green pots.

unknown3.jpg

Nothing to do with chili i know but its a good refrence point if i show my avo`s at this stage, three & four just sprouting.

avo1.jpg

And one & two going OK.

avo2.jpg

My two smaller Bhut Jolokias are just sprouting flower heads, these was the ones the chicken bit right back to the stem.

Bhut7.jpg

Bhut8.jpg

Thought it would be good to get a pic of the baby Bhut Jolokia`s, three & i week old.

smallbhut1.jpg

These will be inside over winter, bit late in the season for them now, but they was no intentionally grown.

smallbhut2.jpg

Next three shots are inside my main bigger Bhut Jolokia`s, its like spotting "Wheres Waldo" but they are there, and bursting with flowers on the top.
