By the way, if any fellow Chicagoans (or non-Chicagoans familiar with the city) know of a good place to by fresh peppers—beyond the standard jalapenos and habaneros—please point a brother in the right direction. I finally started seeing some red bhuts at my local farmers' market late last summer/early fall, but that was, of course, short-lived.

So instead,
I sincerely appreciate the sympathy, but as an outsider looking in, you can only imagine the depths of my suffering. I'm a life-long fan, and it just gets worse every year.
It is very nice to be reminded that at least one team survived Dusty Baker and went on to win it all. I doubt that all of your Baker-era pitchers survived, but you guys don't seem to hurt for pitching these days... so perhaps there's hope for our staff yet.

Thanks for that. According to Google, there's one not too far from my neighborhood. I'll be checking it out soon.

Being an enthusiastic Yankee hater, I'm almost a Red Sox fan by default. If it weren't for the designated-hitter rule, I'd probably call myself a casual Red Sox fan.

Hmm...Jason Schmidt (arm = toast) Beck (Dusty ruined him too) - the rest retired since (Reuter, Russ Ortiz). Livan Hernandez was/is a horse, and so was Ortiz now that I think of it, but I believe the entire pitching staff is new since Dusty left - no one left on Dusty's staff on the 2010 Giants WS team.
We'll see if boy wonder can help your Cubbies - I'm a little skeptical since the BoSox had a ton of talent when Epstein took over - and he kinda ran 'em into the ground before leaving for Chicago. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Regardless it's good to see a fellow baseball/pepper fan!

Unfortunately, according to Yelp, it looks like Caribbean Linstead Market is out of business.
The other two look very promising. Many, many thanks. If I get a chance to get to one or both over the weekend, I'll let you know.

No doubt Epstein inherited a much stronger organization with the Red Sox than he has with the Cubs. And that fact has definitely tempered my joy at acquiring Epstein... but it's tempered it from screaming-crying-teenaged-girl-watching-The-Beatles down to damned-happy-to-have-him.
The Red Sox won 90 games last year, which by their recent standards is definitely a disappointment. From the Cubs' fan's perspective... well, let's just say that, if that's what being run into the ground looks like, it's still a big improvement over where we've been lately.

Word. If you also like '80s references, craft beer, and vintage guitars and tube amps, then we should start a club.

My brother from another mother!
1. I was born in '70, so 80's references are my lifeblood.
2. Check the "Guitar Porn" topic to see my vintage Gibson & Martin guitars
3. You'll also see my Fender Blues DeVille 100 W amp.
Oh, and I have friends in Chicago, so I'm already sure you're good people.
