Oh no no no

Jcck frost is visting in the morning the last couple of days I tarped over but the temps are cold... Just when all the peppers were coming in great... I lost the Thai war ** rest in mush ** I guess I didnt get the cover over far enough... Now some leaves have turned darker on my Piquins and Siams and I wanted to know is it too late to dig up the larger healthier plant of each and over winter?

Also how far back do I cut it back and how much of a root base do I leave? They may not see daylight for a while although I am trying to get some lights set up in the basement, my wife is complaining of the cost of electricity lately so that may get shot down... I just want to get an earlier start next spring.. or is it best to go from seed in Jan - Feb?

poor poor Thai I hardly knew ya **one for my homey :violin::beer:

I leave as much root intact as I can. Pot size and amount of grow space are the limiting factors.

I cut back and leave just a little vegetation on each of the main branches. Some people cut back a lot farther and still have the plant come back. I think that it is a crap shoot. Too much left is not good, but too much taken is probably bad too.

An overwintered plant will have one hell of a head start on a seed, but it is a lot more work keeping it alive over the winter.

NNNnnnnnnoooooOOOOOO not the Siam :( - Hope you scored some nice seeds, if not let me know.
I'll post a pic soon of the mystery Thai, it's starting to look like a tree

At least one Siam looks like it will make it to overwintering --- I did take out seeds a couple of weeks ago -- The mystery Thai was nearly there I swear it had a ton of peppers one was that crimson kinda color just before changing and I must've pulled to hard on the tarp and removed it partially where they were. If you come up with some viable seed for that let me know maybe I have something you may be interested in as well? I have a viable Piquin the largest that is over the 6ft mark took it hard on the ends *** my baby*** I'm hoping that the warm weather will help it I wanted to overwinter that one in particular I may still along with the Siam. I was anxiously awaiting the Thais for Thai dishes I was planning. I have built up quite a collection of seeds from people here and from people that now my interest with some leads going to Costa Rica and Portugal..my wife is trying to get me to come back to reality by saying I dont really need all those peppers .. YAH right ...sheesh ...
So I will have some to trade and I will only grow 1-2 of each next year the 6 Siams 4 Orange Habs 6 Piquins and 3 Mystery Thais were a bit of an over kill but a variety will be had next year -- just wait till "she" sees my germination plans come January .... ;)

Also looking for ways to save and catergorize seed... Like index cards with labeled seed "pouches" in between in a decent size box

Talk to "her" about a recipe box.

I label mine, put 'em in a zip lock bag, and store them in the vegetable crisper. I get people to save those little moisture soaker uppers from vitamins and other pills to put in each bag.

Great more explanation's... "Why is there a recipe box in the Veg crisper".... j/k ...
I was thinking that too I just dont know sizes of them suckers....

I invest in those very small tupperware containers...salad dressing size. Put my seeds in there with a small tear of paper towel. Write the seed name on the lid with felt pen & store in cool, dark cupboard.
